Craftsman oilless problems

I have more pics if you need them but here you should be able to see the piston is not level. When you turn it on the fan hits the plastic tube that hangs down. Is there a way to adjust the piston and level it out so this won't happen or is this thing essentially trashed?

Is the teflon sleeve possibly just that worn out?

aka how old or how much use does the unit have?

I gotta ask why you are wasting any time looking for the problem with this compressor. You should be glad it happened so you can go out and get a new, QUIET one, to use and enjoy.

what compressor is it? I got the parts to rebuild my 60 gallon twin cheap. new rods, pistons, rings and gaskets. the only way the piston goes past tdc is something got longer, haha

Not mine anymore. I sold it to my best friend for $100 he used it once and this happened. I feel kind of bad.

The piston is uneven more than anything. In the picture you can see the left side is all the way up to the top and on the right side there's still a gap.

6 years old. Not a ton of use. Maybe a couple hours of engine run time.

If you look closely at the piston and sleeve it looks as though they are level. The plastic insert around the sleeve looks like it was pushed up. Also if you look at the aluminum mount that holds the plastic insert in and the piston they look level as well while the plastic insert looks like the one side is pushed up (right side of pic) or the opposite side is pushed down. This might sound stupid but is there a chance that the plastic insert slipped down during transportation causing it to hit the fan?

It's always that first and only time. I'd tear mine apart and take a picture. But it's just not worth my time. Tell him to go on Sears.com. Look up the compressor model number and order a new sleeve piston and gasket. I think I spent 30 some bucks total when I rebuilt mine years ago. I wouldn't do anything more if I sold it to one of my friends. Because being oil less they should've known it was a turd to begin with.

this last weekend we did the floors in our house. the thing ran for two full workdays and i bought it back in 2004ish? loud as all get out but the sucker still runs like a champ. it ***** this happened right after selling it to a guy but that is kinda weird.
