they are 12 bucks at my sears. open/deflecting beam style. i believe they were 3/8 drive

They were clearancing them out awhile back too - I think all the sizes were $13. That's when I got my 1/2".

a few weeks back they had the 3/4 ratchet and breaker on clearance but moved them back to the shelf. they had a whole mobile rack of the 97c sockets. only a few limited selections. like the 9mm 1/2 drive, useless

Got the 3/8 and 1/2 for $9.99 and $11.99 respectively (Chillicothe, OH store)- both are US made and lifetime guaranteed. Cashier ended up ringing them both up for $9.99 a piece.

Open beams are suppose to be more accurate than click types. I'd buy them for that much if they are US made. I "recovered" one as a lot kid starting out in a dealer when a tech tossed an open beam into the garbage when he got a new click type. US made Thorsen. Still have it and it's accurate.

Good luck on the warranty in the future if Sears is unloading them.
I've read that the beam type hold their accuracy since the amount of flex in the handle is what it is for a given torque.

My Sears Hardware store actually had a newer open beam torque wrench in stock. I think it was $25 for 3/8 and $30 for the 1/2". Although my sears hardwire tends to run a little more expensive then the internet or full Sears stores.

The plastic handle was more rounded on this one and the reading scales were smaller. Definitely different than the older style(which i just exchanged one of a month back).
