This was in the bottom of a box of stuff I bought at a yard sale.

My first thought was that it probably a nail set (NO NOT a Saw Set :) )
Then I realized it had a round top which would not be on a nail set.
I messed with it and found the bottom unscrewed and it had a scribe point inserted into the handle for safety. So it is a Scratch Awl.
It has CRAFTSMAN and MADE IN USA stamped on it.
I looked here on GJ and found someone else had a couple that were somewhat similar and corroded plus the comments about them.
It seems strange that the CRAFTSMAN logo would be oblique font instead of the normal block letters.
Then I though, could this be the Craftsman made by Marion or Cushman before Sears bought the rights?

Here are some photos:

More likely, a modern Craftsman made by Lufkin or Starrett for Sears. I have never compared mine to each other.

Probably called a scriber rather than a scratch awl tho.

Mine is a 9-4051

My Lufkin is an 87A

Starretts are 70A and B I think, tho not sure mine are marked.
