I'm trying to disassemble a Craftsman 115.7566 grinder. Each side of the shaft has a collar outboard of the bearing that I haven't been able to get off. The collars prevent the shaft from being removed from the cast ends. The collars are not in any restoration photos or videos that I could find on line -- the prior owner was a machinist, so I'm wondering if the collars were press fit or shrink fit on the shaft, maybe up against a shoulder of the shaft (where it changes diameter).
Any advice on how to remove the collars so I can remove the shaft from the unit? Couldn't get a gear puller behind the collar.
Thanks for any advice.
