I use Marvel Mystery Oil in mine with good results. My 1/4 drive had issues when I got it, but after a thorough cleaning and relube, I haven't had any more problems. The 3/8 drive I got recently has been trouble free so far.

Not sure if this helps, but I'm using Silicote Reel Lube in my ratchets to good effect (silicone grease w/ PTFE). Went with this as I can find it locally instead of having to order SuperLube.

Mine were just fine. No oil needed. I have all 3 sizes. Smooth as butter. I wish they would come out with a flex head version

I used a dab of gear oil - it quieted them a ton.

thanks guys.... just tried WD-40 as well, after a good cleaning. there's just something wrong with the pawl i think... it gets jammed up at various angles and not just certain positions of the gear. i'm probably going to call Sears for warranty service and see if they can send me a rebuild kit with new gear/pawl. unfortunately... at least the 1/4" one is smooth... but yeah, i think QC isn't so great... these ratchets are new straight out of box and I don't think they would pass QC had they been inspected, at least the 3/8 and 1/2.

these seem to be hit and miss on QC. The one I received after exchanging my bad 3/8 has worked perfectly.

damn... i should have known.... dealing with Sears/Craftsman is always a huge pain the rear... after calling several numbers and being told I called the wrong number and transfered and then getting dropped and what not... finally spoke to a Craftsman representative who was part of "sales" and told me that basically there's nothing they can do on the phone. that my only recourse was to go get it exchanged at the store. I told her that none of the Sears stores in my area (all 8 of them) have this item in stock. She said to speak to the store manager and have them order one for me. Which means 2 trips; one to get them to order it, a second to actually get it exchanged.... PIA dude... At least with Gearwrench, they just mail you the replacement... wish my 120XP order had gone through.

yeah... the 1/4" drive one is totally awesome, the other 2 not so much.

call them and ask if they have a rebuild kit.

didn't find a store that had a rebuild kit either. but found a store that had 2 in stock even though inventory showed none. the guy I spoke with was cool to hold one for me. but at the store, his co-worker at the cashier told him he wasn't allowed to exchange it and that they'd have to order a rebuild kit. I'm like WTF??? well when the guy walked away, he exchanged it for me anyway. very cool guy and I wish I could tell his manager that guys like him brings back happy customers, but I probably would get him in trouble as he told me to not tell anyone he exchanged it for me. kinda messed up that I can't reward the guy that made the customer happy....

the new one works awesome though... totally different feel from the defective one... QC is really bad...

These are available separately but not as a set. Will or have these been discontinued? I like these but if warranty replacements won't be available I will have to skip these as the thin profile and RP teardrop ratchets aren't a valid replacement.

Not been discontinued yet, but the did change COO from USA to Taiwan. But considering sears condition financially and how often the change stock, I wouldn't buy them.
I am aware you did not ask for suggestions, but I feel like it wouldn't hurt to mention. Armstrong maxx ratchets have recently been updated to the 88 tooth design of the Matco ratchets, sk round heads are nice but they are round head and course, williams b52 which are also course, gearwrench 84 I have a 3/8 one as a warrenty replacement and it is pretty nice. If you want really cheap rats then the hf pros and composites look nice for the money, I have a 1/4 composite and I like it a lot it is meaty and I haven't been gentle to it and it has hold up good. Also if you don't desperately need them desperately you could always pick up used tool truck brands. And don't limit yourself to just one brand, I perfer cornwell for 1/2 drive, sk for 3/8 and the hf composite for 1/4. There are alot of options out there so it doesn't hurt to research. Sorry about the rambling but I like ratchets.
