The handles are little bit too square for my liking. I like the shape of the Cornwell handle better. My $.02

My store is out of USA. I like them more the the RP ratchets, but have allot of other ratchets that I enjoy using more than both.

I have them all 3 sizes. They are really nice for the money. Really similar to the gearwrench 84t but USA made. I use the 1/4 one all the time and its becoming my favorite. I have some snap on and Cornwell and usuall pick this one up first for some reason. In 3/8 my favorite is my Cornwell jr72. 1/2 I don't use that often.

I have them I like them. They are thinner than the thin profile. If i am not mistaken you can get the Armstrong aerospace ratchets from Harry Epstein for cheaper the 1/4 and 3/8 have 88 teeth and the 1/2 has 60 teeth. You can buy an 88 tooth kit from Matco for $20.

They are essentially the same mechanisms just with a different tooth count. I have both and I like them both but I still pick up my Sk's first.

I have been waiting forever for the 3 piece set to go on sale again. I picked up the USA 3 piece thin profile set a little while back before they went Taiwan because I wanted the quick release. I would really like to at least give the 3/8" and 1/4" a shot.

I have the 1/4" drive and the 3/8" drive and use them all the time. I use the 1/4" the most. I got both of them within a few days of each other when Sears had them on sale a little while back. I like them and haven't had a single problem with either one. I'd certainly recommend them, particularly if you can get them on sale.

+1 on the S-K ratchets. I was a LONG time Craftsman user and have had them all....and still have quite a few. Recently, I've been buying Williams sealed heads for specialty ratchets (1/4" long handle flex and 3/8" long handle) but I gotta say, my old S-K round head ratchets just keep on working! Rebuild kits are the same as they always have been and you can buy them used CHEAP!

I have a complete set that I had to have, I think they are really nice, feel good in my hand, but I almost never use them, they are like new, work great but for some reason I go to my locking flex head matco as my go to ratchet. I'm trying to trade them for some roto ratchets that I probably won't use much either, but I still want to try them! I need help:lol_hitti

I went to sears intending to buy the 3/8 thin head, they were a couple bucks off...The thin head weren't made in USA so I passed. The premium ratchets were USA, but for $20 less, I'll take the Armstrongs from Epstein.

Essentially the same thing as the Gearwrench and Armstrong ratchets. I really like the 1/4" but I feel that the larger sizes are a little to heavy.

If you want usa I would check out the Armstrong "Aerospace" ratchets.

"aerospace" has 88 teeth where the regular ones are 60 tooth count. All 60's can be upgraded to 88t or 84t using a rebuild kit for Gearwrench and Craftsman (84t) or Matco (88t).

Gearwrench will get you an identical ratcheting mechanism with a snap on knock off handle for pennies on the dollar. The GW can be had in 60t, 84t, and now 120t.

The thin profile ratchets are some of my favorite, mine are all USA but I wouldn't mind picking up the China ones for the right price. I think these are the most ergonomic [all metal] ratchets for my hand.

The 1/2" is way too heavy and clunky the 3/8" is pretty good and the 1/4" is perfect. 1/4" TP is my goto over my SO T72.

There are a few things worth mentioning about the Craftsman premium as compared to others. First, they have an actual screw retained metal gear cover instead of the thin steel plate retained by a snap ring. They are longer overall with an excellently designed comfortable handle for increased torque. lastly, you have to wonder how long they'll be supported by Sears being US made and pricey for a cratsman product. Buy them on sale and use they hell out of them. Wish they sold flex head versions.

Buy the Craftsman premium and grab a few kits as back up if you are worried about their American status in the future.

In fact, it doesn't hurt to have back up kits for any of the ratchets you own. You only have to read all the complaints about all the valued older ratchets you can no longer get parts for, to understand that if it's going to be your favorite ratchet 20 or 30 years from now, that it may be a good idea to insure it stays that way.

It may also be true that if outsourcing does turn viral, the only "Made in America" ratchets that will be left are the ones that can still be fixed or bought for prices that would make truck brands look like a steal.

If this has taught us anything, it is that there are no guarantees, only the precautions you take to preserve your own tool investment.

Let me ask you this, are you an American or an American't? :dunno::wtf::confused::lol_hitti

I have several extra rebuild kits for my premium ratchets as I have the kit in my Armstrong locking flex ratchets. They are pretty strong I have the 84 tooth kit in my Armstrong locking flex ratchets. I have one at work and one at home and I haven't had a problem yet.

yes, its a good idea to pick up a few rebuilds for the premiums, just incase sears drops them like they have every other tool worth a damn.

those 84t premium kits will fit and work in you armstrong, gearwrench, matco ratchets also, if one of them takes a **** on ya too. FWIW

How do you get the rebuild kits? Are they available for purchase? I have all 3 ratchets and would like spare parts in case they are discontinued.

You can be dead with ratchet rebuild kits on the shelf. How do you guys wear them out? I see some from the hobby crowd, 18 ratchets and now we figure we need a "few rebuild" kits.

Whatever side of the line you find yourself on with the COO argument, you still have to come to terms with the possible outsourcing of your favorite ratchet.

Lifetime warranties may guarantee you another ratchet should yours fail, but it doesn't guarantee it will be the same COO and for some, where this is of importance, kits may be their only assurance.

The companies I buy my ratchets from are still producing my ratchets in the country they claim, but recent history has shown this can change very quickly. Lifetime warranties are worthless if you can't get the same tool back or fixed with the same parts.

Do I expect the Snap on, Matco, Hazet, or Gedore ratchets I own will last me for the rest of my life? Absolutely! Do these tools break, wear or fail sometimes? Yes they do! Do all changes these companies make to their ratchets mean they have improved them? No it doesn't. Do any of the kits cost so much you are willing to gamble your favorite ratchet company won't outsource or change a ratchet from gold to **** for profit?

Many, if not all the major tool manufactures have some product they rely on other countries to produce. Which direction is your ratchet company going?

The only true constant is change. How will you adjust to it? For some, kits might be that adjustment. For others, they'll buy what their manufacturers sell them. Now a days, lifetime warranties are not guarantees.

I'm Just saying...:)

The statement from my eariler post "grab a few kits" may have been just a little exaggerated...

only available through sears, and they dont sell them outright. you can go to sears and ask them for a rebuild kit for your premium ratchet, and odds are that they will give it to you for one penny. warranty exchanges at sears charge one penny so the transaction can be entered into the computer system.

the matco, armstrong, gearwrench kits WILL NOT work in the craftsman premium ratchets, althought the premium kits WILL work in the matco, armstrong, gearwrench ratchets.

So it looks like sears is my only option for a rebuild kit that will work. Going to have to try my luck in getting a couple
