In the new craftsman club mag this combo unit is priced at only $199 -- a savings of $200.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00926325000P?vName=Tools&cName=Portable+Power+Tools&keyword=26325&sLevel=1|2

This is the combo set, but not the actual advertisement since the newest catalogue is not on the web as of yet.

Does anyone have any comments on the quality or the price of this combo set? It seems like a great deal, but I am not that saavy when it comes to electric drills, etc-I bought a firestorm drill.:bounce:

I was thinking of dropping some hints for Christmas.

Thank you, Brad

It is the most expensive and highest end battery powered tools that Sears/Craftsman sells.... that being said they're are other brands and better tools out there...
The grapevine is that they are made by Ryobi...

Also... 20.0 volts???

I'm guessing this is either 18 or 19.2, and they're rating 'em at the voltage they're actually CHARGED with, not what the batteries supply. I'd heard that there were quite a few toomakers beginning to do this.

I received the reciprocating saw as a gift and bought the drill shortly after. I did not do any comparison shopping since I started off with a gift but I can say that the drill kicks the **** of the 18 volt nicad Dewalts I have at work. The Jacobs 500 series chuck on the drill is a pleasure to use and the power is such that you must be careful not to break drivers and snap screws. The drill and the saw are both heavy duty tools with metal gearing inside. Pick them up in the store with no battery and you will feel how heavy they are. Depending on what you are using them for, they may even be too heavy. If you are looking for corded tool power with cordless tool convenience these may be a good choice though.

There is a two year professional use warranty.

The circ saw did not get great reviews in the Fine Home Building article I read. I have not tried the circ. saw

Most Craftsman power tools are made by Ryobi but these are not. I was told that the OEM was Chevron. I don't know anything else about Chevron power tools though.

Guys,

Thank you for the numerous replies. I will mostly be using the drill to remodel the basement and other odd jobs around the house. I am not a professional.

I have a small 18v ryobi combo set with a circular saw included. I have used that many times when a quick cut was needed.

I really enjoy this forum.

not to bring back an old thread but does anyone know who made these batteries? It says die hard on mine but I can't find anything about them. I have one that's bad and need a replacement.
