Sorry to see yours rusting like that. I have some of the Craftsman Pros from back in the day and they have been very good tools but they look just slightly different than these with plain black handles. They were e a good bit higher quality than current WF Craftsman Pliers for the same tool. Don't know how the Ampro/Craftsman Pro connection was done here. - paul

The links in Craftsman47's are not for old stock craftsman USA professional.

Those are Ampro. Ampro did not make the Cman Pro black and gold handled pliers, Western Forge did. This thread will confuse people. Look closely at the groove joint pliers, the Cman have a flush joint and the Ampro's have screw joint fastener.

Craftsman47, this is what yours would look like.

I edited my post above after looking at my old pros. They are a little different than these. - Paul

What I like to do with old rusty but GOOD US tools is get the rust off, then paint 'em with a little Rustoleum. They won't rust again for a long long time and can still be used as the good tools they are. If anyone in future generations gets your tool and wants to take the paint off again, that can always be done. My low maintainance way of preventing rust. I have some old Craftsman Japan COO wrenches from the 80's and they are great but have surface rust, unlike the US Craftsman from that era. They are all painted over now and happy! - Paul

Sorry, but that is neglect on those Craftsman Pro pliers rusting up like that than anything to do with lack of quality. Looks like they were left either outside or in a high humidity environment.

not left outside.
always in my drawers.

For some reason, all of the Craftsman Gold pliers got rusty like that......while my other stuff did not.

It is not neglect, I have stuff older in better shape.

The weather here rusts them if they sit idle for while, most of my craftsman pliers looked like his unless I left them coated in grease or spayed them down to keep them covered. Sitting in the home box they where not often used and the temp swings just enough to rust them. If I wiped them down and just put them away next time I used them it would have rust pits, only way to stop it was spray them down with something before putting them back in the box. The coating on the WF craftsman stuff was never the best.

BTW Harry I used to work with your bother at liberty...

I can agree, somewhere in my years of collecting others unwanted tools I had some of these. I didnt use them regularly and just from being in my box they rusted as well. Now I pack all my boxes with silica gel packets I gather from random things. They havent let me down yet and I havent had a need for any of the special dessicant products that carry a premium price. Yours should clean up with a decent rust removing solution and scotch brite. After cleaning id recommend putting hosing them down with some sort of oil. A recent tip Ive heard of is to use Rem-oil or Hoppes 9 non aerosol variety on a rag. Seeing what some guys here have revived from finds buried in the yard.. im sure there are other ways as well.
