Found this in my local Sears Hardware while I was wondering around after looking at hammers. Cashier didn't want to sell it to me and called the store manager, he said sell it:beer:. I'm glad I had bungee cords with me to tie it to my motorcycle!

Great deal on a great vise if you ask me.

Vise isn't listed on the sears site but I did find it here

That's the new version of the paperweight I returned back in 2002 when they told me it was US made and it clearly was not :(.

Fortunately, you got it heavily discounted....

Rang up $105 for me too, I had to go get the clearance tag and then the chaser kept it and went to go remove any other clearance stickers in the vise section after I checked out. It's worth a stop if you happen to pass a Sears.

Sweet I'll check tomorrow. I'm looking for a real vise, but this should be better than the cheap one I have now.. $30 Bessey I think??

I bought one about a year ago when they were on sale for $80 or something like that and have been happy with it. COO is China but for $40 I'm not complaining.

I'd much rather have an older American made vise but those are like gold around me on CL.

I paid 105 for one for my dad... and thought it was a good deal. Yes, it's imported, but you'll be hard pressed to find a vise that's actually better than it for the price. I'll be stopping by my local Sears hoping to find one.

I actually was very luck back then. I ordered the Industrial one, thinking it was USA made as I was told. It arrived and it was not. I was furious. Sears took it back and exchanged it---for an 8" Wilton tradesman bullet at NO charge.

Wohoo!

There are lots of people who wanted these as sears discontinued them, so a hot deal to find one let alone at that price. I would have bought them out... (who doesn't need tons of vises...)

Wow, that's smokin' deal if it's the same 4 1/2 professional vise that was sold last year at $105 less discounts that got it down to $85 to $90 . . .

Strapping that heavy baby to motorcycle must have been quite the sight !! :D

Post up pics once you open up the box, as there were two versions of that vise.

I'm gonna have to run over to my local store later. I know they have one on the shelf. I'll have to price check it.

I already have on of these vises, but if it was 40 bucks, I'll take another.

Nice find OxJaw, but I don't expect that there are many more out there. I thought I did well when I picked up an old floor model for $60 a few months back.

and even if we do find one, what are the chances that tag is still incorrectly stuck on the shelf, seeing where they're priced at $105 now?

Edit: now it's saying "temporarily unavailable" with no price on the craftsman site

I don't think it's a pricing error. It looks to be discontinued & has been NLA on their site for months. I'm guessing OxJaw stumbled upon some old stock that they're trying to clear out. Sears Hometown & Hardware stores don't tend to get as much traffic. You can still find a lot of NOS US items on their shelves. Rochester still has quite a bit, I've been scoffing it up as surprise points allow.

I don't believe it was an incorrect price. I always have problems with this particular store price matching other stores. Last time I tried to price match a regular Sears, even had a receipt and called the Sears while I was in the store, and the manager refused to price match saying it was too big of a discount. They were just giving me a hard time last night.

Point is that it rang up at $105, and the employees never changed the tag on the shelf. You got them to fix the price to what was shown on the tag, which is 100% correct on your part.

My point is, what are the chances of finding one in another store where the employees didn't get rid of that clearance tag.

Anyway, i'm still gonna cross my fingers and take a peek in the local store lol

Since this was at a Sears Hardware store, chances are very slim if any of you are thinking of checking a mall store. Hardware stores are franchised and have different prices than the full line stores.

I'd like to go check my nearest Sears Hardware since this is a killer deal, but it's an hour away and I don't get over there often.

I have one... got it for $60.00... You should of bought them all and then offered them for sale on the forums... They would have been snapped up fast!

If there had been more than one I would have bought them:D

Are they really discontinued? That's disappointing. These vices were one of the more decent products Sears still had.

I haven't seen them in any of the other stores I have checked and it seems to me that most of the other CMAN Pro stuff has also disappeared as well.

I've been looking for one of these for a while. Out of stock online and all they have at my local Sears are the junky ones. Great find. I would buy it at $149.

So I saw this thread was was nearby my local Sears this afternoon so I stopped by to check out it. I already have a true made in the USA Wilton Tradesman (5.5") that this vice is a clone of but its down in my gun room and kind of over kill for what I'm using it for.

bench.jpg

I've been wanting a smaller, less expensive vice for gunsmithing purposes so that I can move my Wilton out to the garage. I had debated this vise in the past but thought it was over priced at its normal pricing and even at $105, I wasn't motivated to bite.

My local Sears did have one in stock and it was on sale but the price was $58.95. Not the $37.49 I was hoping for but I guess it was low enough for me to pull the trigger. I plan to pull it apart, smooth out any rough spots, repaint it, re-grease it and put it to work. Compared to my Wilton, its not a great vise but it will work and I think I will be happy enough with it for the price I paid.

So that was my long winded way of saying, thanks for the heads up!

Pretty sure it is a case of going - going - soon to be gone.....

Why the hell not, while we're at it, what kind of screwdrivers are those? My GJ instincts wanna say they're Beta, but it looks like you have a good assortment of American tools (Channellock, Elkind (?), maybe a Craftsman BP, a big obvious Wilton...).

I think those are channellock screwdrivers also. The made a black/blue version of the Code Blue .. some limited edition set. see here:
