Hey guys so I recently snapped a pair of Craftsman Professional Channellock style pliers in half. I went to the store and they don't make the professionals anymore so they offered me the regular pair as a replacement. I'm not really a fan or the regular pair that Craftsman sells and I'm going to be upgrading to a better pair of pliers but at the same time I would like to get these replaced. Has anyone had any luck getting a refund or something similar for Craftsman Professional tools that are no longer made?

Edit also I called Sears customer service as instructed by the manager at my local store and they sent me to a phone number for Craftsman and Craftsman suggested I go back to Sears

Are you referring to the craftsman rebadged Knipex Cobra pliers or different? If they aren't the cobra pliers, I'd request a trade for those. If all else fails, take the regular groovelock pliers. I like them a lot and they're the same as SK's. Believe it or not they're better then many other brands available and don't have the large nut protruding that holds them together at the joint.

Ironically, I just busted the 10-1/2 model of the same pliers. Unfortunately the 10-1/2 is rare, and costly to replace when they occasionally pop up on Ebay.

When Craftsman first discontinued these pliers, the official order from Sears Corporate was to replace them with comparable Knipex branded pliers. At the time, the computers would allow the Knipex to be warrantied (I worked there for awhile, so I know this). It's been several years, and I doubt any current employees or even managers remember this, and I don't believe the computers allow Knipex to be warrantied any more.

When I still worked there, we were able to issue a gift card in lieu of warranty if something was not in stock. The problem with that is if it wasn't something the store stocked (or had been discontinued), the price was difficult to determine. The 9-1/2 are still listed on Sears.com, so you may be able to base a price off of these: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-prof...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4.

If they won't issue a gift card or you don't want one, my suggestion would be as gdocktor3 recommended, and see if they will replace them with the Craftsman-branded Cobra pliers.
