Coworker asked me to fix this Craftsman Professional power washer. It has 1150 Briggs and Stratton engine. It is leaking water out of a hole on the crankcase cover of the engine. My coworker thought it was oil at first but we ran the engine without the pump on/no water and it was dry.

Could water get past the pump and into the engine? Thank you in advance for your ideas.

If you pull the dipstick out, is the crankcase full of water? Otherwise, no way to get pressure washer water into the crankcase. Or pump leaking and squirting water towards the hole? This isn't normal.

I might be wrong, but pretty sure the hole is for a dowel pin to help locate the engine cover. It might hold 2 or 3 drops of water, but that would be about it.
Check the oil and make sure is looks good. If it is milky, you are getting water in the oil. The only way it could happen is for water to leak from the pump and force it's way past the crankshaft oil seal and I an not certain it is even possible.

One more thing, don't run the engine without water hooked up. Water lubricates the plungers and seals i nthe pump. Run it too long and you might be rebuilding the pump.

I don't think you'll see water come out of that hole with water hooked up & running. it's a locating pin for another application or used to hold while machining the casting in the manufacture process.
could it have been laying on it's side & got some water in it?

Water ONLY comes out when hooked up and running
