Ordered Monday early. Got them Wednesday afternoon. Great set for the price. USA made.

Well, they came today! These are some damn good pliers, very complete set, and made in USA! Even though they are stamped, as opposed to forged, they are still very strong.

+1

Mine arrived today, too. Handles are not simply dipped in rubber, either. They are thick and fairly comfortable when squeezing.

Well, in the ultimate irony, my order got canceled. Weird. So, if anybody ends up not liking theirs and wants to pass them on, send me a PM. Glad it worked out for others.

Um...how straight / parallel are those prongs supposed to be on the tips of these pliers? Mine seem to be a little cockeye. I will try to post a pic later, but I wasn't impressed.

Thanks for the excellent reply, jeremy v. I now understand why the tips would need to be angled. I'm still a little dubious about the set, though, as some of the pliers tips seem to be of different lengths and angles. Take a look at these pics to see what I'm talking about.

Am I worrying too much? I've never owned a set of these, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

I was going to post the same questions as pendragon, but he beat me to it. My set came in today, and while I understand the angled tips, the uneven lengths have me a little curious-- is that normal? It seems especially pronounced on the smallest sizes, in the 90 degree pliers.

This set is almost certainly made by Wilde, known for good solid USA products, pliers and crowbars and other things. Which is why I'm a little puzzled; these have a fine pedigree, so maybe it's how they're supposed to be?

I don't think it's by design, they are simply functional tools. Definitely not pretty, but get the job done. Honestly at $140 I would be upset, for $50 I think it's ok. I don't care all that much if my tools are pretty, but if they are functional, durable and a good value. Now if I pay a lot for them, then I want some man jewelry!

Im very happy with my set but they do need a little work. None of my ends look anything like larryq though. One of these days when Im a little ambitious im going to get my flat and round file and make the ends perfect to where they match perfect on the the base where the tip starts and file the ends perfect, luckily all my angles are perfect. I hate the look down the edges of them how you can see that there stamped I want to take them apart and file those edges til there purdy and smooth to then mask the handles and faces of them and paint the edges and tips with some semi flat tough paint. Mine are perfectly funtional but I like perfection.

They shipped mine to the billing instead of the shipping address. UPS couldn't find the billing address to deliver, even though it's a UPS Store location which recently moved and USPS has no issue forwarding to. So UPS says "contact the shipper"

Sears took my information and Apu said he would have it changed, but it would ship a new package and I would get a new tracking number. Okay, easier to reroute the existing package but whatever you want to do.

Received the following email a day later:

Thank you for shopping at Sears.com.

Unfortunately we were unable to redirect your order with UPS. You may try and contact your local UPS to have the order held at the hub for pick up. The tracking number for your order is 1Z6R9Axxxxxxxxxxxx
. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Called UPS and they said there is no reason Sears couldn't have rerouted it, and in fact Sears specified when they shipped the package that only the could reroute. Fortunately it's at our local hub and they'll give me it with an ID.

Gotta love Sears!

Thanks for the eyes on this. The photo I posted was the worst offender by far. I don't think it's fixable given the tip on one side is lower than the main support on the other. Even shaving the tip to the nub it still wouldn't line up.

If I were to bring this single plier to my local Sears, would I get a replacement? Or do I have to send the whole set back?

I doubt you'd find a single replacement in the store. I would try calling Apex first: 1-800-832-7494, Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30 EST. People seem to have better luck with them. Tell us how that goes for you!

I don't know if Apex has anything to do with these. I don't have the insert that came with the box since its in the car which is under 4" of snow at the moment. If I dig out today, I'll be sure to see if there is a contact number on it.

I think the phone call idea is a really good one. but what I'm saying is, I think it's a completely different manufacturer that he should call. Apex is not the OEM for these and would not be responsible. On a previous post people indicated Stride tool, but it could be someone else. So I agree with your approach. No point in wasting time at the store if he can call and get it sorted in the comfort of his own home.

Yes, that set looks identical, with a different colored box and handles. Kinda like those colors better - lol

I ran out and looked at my paperwork. The only number I found was the one on the sears invoice: 1-800-349-4358, which I assume is sears customer service. Sorry if I told you wrong about Apex.

No problem, thanks for the advice. I'll give the 800 number a try and see what's what.

Imagine if you bought the Snap-on set for $322 and received those tips, how pissed you'd be. Think there is any more QA for 6 times the price? :)

The Proto 360B set is more reasonable at $300. Or, $310 with free shipping to your local Staples store. Why in the world is Staples selling these?

The Mac's seem to be even cheaper at $270.

Cornwell's a mere $194!

on all the pics you posted, the moldings on all the boxes are the same, except snapon is different.

how sure are you that snapon is the same product?

Same manufacturer, I believe the pliers are slightly different as well though. Not worth 6x the cost though :)

Yup, that is my understanding as well, and why I pulled the trigger on this set. As for the mis-formed tips; there is always something that gets by quality control. I wouldn't discount the quality because one tip is bad, get it warrantied and call it a day.

Snapons are forged, plastic case looks similar and that's where it ends. I own 2 pairs of the Craftsmans and am not impressed with them, they don't even fit the snap rings on Craftsman ratchets.

+1 the Snap On's are not the same as the imperial/stride, if you have ever held a pair it's blatantly obvious. I own a handful of imperial/stride pliers marketed under many different brands, Mac, Sk, KD, Matco, Blackhawk etc...

You know the same manufacturer can make different grades/etc., right? Also, Stride is Milbar...

Stride makes forged snap ring pliers?

if Craftsman made a set of .047 fixed tip pliers I'd be happy, the only two they offer outside of the professional use set are .038 and .070, neither of which fits a 3/8 Craftsman ratchet. I haven't experienced the tip problems posted in this thread, however the pliers feel more flimsy than my Craftsman lock ring pliers. I'll try the universal set and report back.

Finally opened my box, for $50 it was an ok deal, would have been pissed had I paid anywhere near full price. Just have to use them now and see how they work. Most the tips on mine aren't bent the same way, one side will be straight while the other bends in or down. Might work for the best as it should be harder for them to slip out of the holes. Last time I spent good money on some SR pliers was a $100+ set of proto that have the removable tips and is reversible. The reversing part failed rather quickly and the tips were mostly too big for most of the things we work on. Have plenty of the cheap red handled ones that reverse by taking them apart and they are so loose they won't open far enough in most cases.
