I don't know sears would give a new one since it is not a manufacture defect more just past its life.

Yes sears will replace it but the best way to do is in the following way.

(1) go over to the tool section that has the punches and find the replacement one.

(2) Take it along with your broken one over to the counter/check-out area.

(3) Be very nice do not get upset, smile and it will go smooth from there.:)

(4) Thank them and smile.:)

(5) It goes bad when people start cussing and yelling remember sears pays them not very much money and a smile goes a long way...:)

AS Opposed to some of are members that forget steps 3 & 4 then come back to the GJ and rant.

Woody & ALL: or if you find a broken tool that was probably used and abused by one of the past owners you just throw it in the scrap bin.

Anybody want to know why Sears and other companies have moved all their factories to China or are going out of business. it's not entirely from people turning in broken tool finds for new tools, but i'm sure that didn't help.

sorry, but my part to try and save some of the US businesses is to toss warrantied products if found broken or if I or one of my kids used it wrong.

JUST AN FYI

i bought a new set of Craftsman tools about 40 years ago and only had to return a ratchet for exchange and discovered later i should have been using breaker bars on rusty bolts and not my ratchet all the time.

REALLY not trying to start a debate because i ALMOST ALWAYS avoid those worthless threads when members seem to want to shout at the moon. some guys would find $100 bill on the sidewalk and complain that it was dirty so no helping them. i just thought the vintage guys might want to hear my take.

Why not just keep using it as a center punch
More use as a center punch than a pin punch anyway:thumbup:

Face it off, drill it, and insert a piece of drill rod. Viola, a "new" =v= pin punch that can be repaired when it breaks.

I agree. I'd be embarassed to even go to the store and ask for a new one. Too many people have tried to abuse that exchange policy for years.

Craftsman punches are still USA as far as I know. At least I thought. The ones I bought right before Christmas was made by Western Forge.
