Well I just joined this forum last week and it's had me hooked ever since. This is my first post after spending the last week lurking. Seems like a great community that I'm glad to now be a part of.

I recently decided that I wanted to purchase some combination wrenches but I can't seem to decide which ones I want. I'm going with Craftsman because I want to get something decent for a good price and I'm not going to be using these wrenches everyday.

Should I go with the Craftsman raised panel 12pc standard and metric sets?

i have some of each.

the raised panels are shorter, the cm pro's are longer.

they both serve their purpose.
i prefer longer wrenches, especially at work, i can "make do" in the garage with a shorter wrench

Sounds like you pretty well have decided on Craftsman. Any reason you didn't look at Williams or Armstrong?

Just depends on if you want a little additional length or not. For what its worth the two raised panel sets you posted will be on sale for $25 ea. starting this weekend,

additionally the larger 26pc sets will also be on sale for $50 ea.

The main thing with sears is to manipulate the coupons and sales. Right now is %10-%15 off. The upcoming deals i mentioned will be Cman club member deals and will often stack with 5-15% sales. Then theres coupons

sears5off50 $5 off $50
coupon cabin 5 off 50 which stacks with the above

To be honest I love the warranty and so far I've been pretty satisfied with the service at the local sears. The only other brands I looked at was Wright because we have a local supply company that sells them. I'll make sure and check both of those brands out. Thanks for the suggestion

I really enjoy using my Cman Pro wrenches. Great finish, great feel, and excellent fit on fasteners.

If your store still has the USA made Pros, id go with them, otherwise go with the raised panel!

Think about this, if they go on sale get both. Full polish and the 6-point raised panels should cover all bases.

if the pros are actually the us made ones i would try and find a way to get them. they will eventually disappear and be replaced by the crappy import wrench if they have not already. you will more than likely be able to get the us made raised panels for quuite some time in the future. not true about the pros.

The old style Craftsman USA made full polish wrenches are the best bang for the buck. Don't care for the looks of the new PRC made version though, I can't get past the fat open ends. :wtf:

I think both are great (USA-made Craftsman Professional or the goold old raised panels). If you can find the USA-made Craftsman Pros and the price is agreeable to you, then by all means go with those. But honestly, the raised panel wrenches are one of the best bargains to be had in USA-made tools. They are great wrenches and the price, especially when on sale, is unbeatable. I think you'd be better off with two sets of the raised panels for less than half the price of one set of Pros - then you will be equipped to deal with a bolt/nut that are the same size.

I love my older SK made Cman Pro combos wrenches. They have served me well when I need leverage, along with my old standard length Proto combos.

I hear the new Cman Pros are now Chinese. They're probably good I don't know. I'm reluctant to support the Chinese economy though.
