A friend asked me about this 1/4" drive ratchet, i didn't see anything on the AA site. Is the selector on correctly or the drive is in backwards?

Pop the plate and flip the gear around. In the past, some have said they like flipping gears around backwards like that to get a little extra head clearance in tight spots.

Like PowderKeg said, it is an unintended "feature" of that ratchet family.

Some have taken advantage of the clearance to get in the particular tight spot otherwise not allowed due to the selector.

For their time, these were actually pretty decent ratchets.
