Last saturday I went to my local Sears to get some parts to rebuild my 12 year old compressor & while there, noticed a rebuilt 60 gallon, 3.2 RHP twin cylinder, 240V Craftsman Professional model for $359. The parts gal told me that if I came back monday it would be 30% off. So, monday i snatched it for $272 after taxes. In my excitement I failed to thoroughly check it over & when I get home I notice the motor shaft/pulley horribly out of alignment with the pump flywheel. Turns out that a bracket welded to the motors housing had broken welds & was bent. So I call the next day & they tell me to bring it back & they'll exchange it for another just like it. I take it back & while checking the exchange unit I notice the cover to the pressure switch missing & a plastic piece missing that holds the diaphram spring & the handle on theball valve bent straight up. They didn't have any more & this is a lot more compressor than my old one so I asked if I could just warranty this one & i've got a new pressure switch & ball valve being shipped to my house. So my question is, did I get a decent deal?
PS: When I got home I straightened the valve's handle in a vice & have another nice stainless steel valve on the way.

Which model number? The 18419 had a design flaw that leads to blown head gaskets semi-regularly. It's fixable but if it were me, I'd not keep a 18419.

I have a 184191 that I have had for several years. It has been working fine, casual use, what should I watch for as far as the design flaw is concerned?
Is replacing a bad head gasket the solution or is there something else that should be done>
Thanks
