I have the same saw but the shell is not as stylish as the current design, I think it's the same saw though. Mostly it just vibrate my arms instead of cutting through stuff.. Not sure if something is broken or not or just a poor blade?

I think it will work fine for what you need it for. Wait for a sale if you can.

If you're only going to use it a couple of times a month, you might want to consider getting a cordless one that is on the same battery system as a cordless drill you might already have. I know you can buy DeWalt and Bosch tools "bare" - no batteries, no charger, no case. All depends on what you're looking for.

If you don't want a cordless saw, I'd also vote for one of the pro line tools like the Milwaukee that hamburglar posted the amazon link to. Home Depot has a few options for under $100.

I'd check Craigslist for a used one. I see corded ones on there every week dirt cheap. . . especially the older ones without the tooless blade changer.

I'd MUCH rather have an older Milwaukee than most anything newer.

As for cordless. . . You might keep an eye on Target's clearance section. I bought a Black & Decker 18v cordless kit there for $45 a year or two ago. (Just for the reciprocating saw.) It's not great, but it does work. Having said that. . . I've got a 12v Ridgid drill & right nngle impact driver , 2 -12v Dewalt drills, a 14v Milwaukee drill / flashlight, a 18v Ridgid circular saw / flashlight & the 18v Black & Decker cordless kit and I'm going to sell all but the impact driver and buy one of the Lithium Ion kits.

Yeah go with the milwauykee for 89

That's kind of my thinking. I don't doubt that an older saw is 'better' in some way but, honestly, without specifics I would just blow off that theory. Also..

1) New is, well...'new'. Not such a bad thing. Plus you get a warranty.
2) I'm super pro corded for this kind of thing. If I were a professional construction worker, dragging stuff to and climbing around job sites it would be a different matter. They'll wear stuff out well before the batteries become either unusable or worn out. Personally, if I buy a decent power tool, I want to be buried with the thing and never buy another. I think that corded tools (big electric impacts, jig saws, hammer drills, all that kind of stuff) are definitely the way to go to get a lot of years (as opposed to uses) out of something. I'd make an exception for a small cordless drill or impact wrench.

I'm sure it will do fine.
In that price range, I would look at the Skil also. And check for sales at Sears and price reductions in Lowes and Home Depot. At the tool store where I work, we had the Bosch RS-20 (top-of-the-line Bosch) for $79 last year, so you never know.
Then again, for a little more ($79+), check out the Dewalt, Porter Cable and Milwaukee saws.
At a few of the Cash America pawn shops in my area, they have used Milwaukee Sawzalls in the $35 range. My first recip saw was a third hand (maybe fourth or fifth hand) very used Milwuakee Sawzall and I still use it at work today. Ugly as hell, but the damn thing just keeps on going.

Oh, one more thing. No matter which one you decide to get, if it is not a Milwaukee, please don't call it a Sawzall. Thanks.

Kleenex is a paper tissue. Band aid is a self adhesive bandage. It tells you right on the box.

Edit: Sorry I just had to do it.
