Are these any good? They seem like a great idea.

They work just fine.

Old stock is still made in USA.

New and current set offerings are Asian made.

Shop around for some other brands and check prices.

I have both metric and standard and have never had a problem.

I have a metric set, and they have worked for me. If i where to buy them again i would definitely wait for them to be on sale though or look into other brands offerings.

If you can't find USA made craftsman id go gearwrench or duralast. My flex ratchet wrenches are gw and my offset reversible are duralast.

I prefer the craftsman locking flex to the gearwrench.gearwrench are floppy when unlocked and the craftsman have detents.

Are you talking about the riveted type where the reverse switch is on the side or the one that looks like a box wrench where the switch on the front?

Have owned the sae(USA)set for over a year now. Only used a few but have worked well so no complaints here.

I have some. They are the newer china style they are fine. I got them for 30 dollars with points for the 14 piece SAE and Metric that's the only reason I got them because they were so cheap. I also have the gearwrench reversible id get the Gearwrench brand. If you get the Craftsman go for the USA versions if possible the open end is not lobster claw on the USA and the ratchet end is thinner.

I thought they were just another gimmick for a long time but I found a used set for a deal I could not pass up and they have quickly become my favorite go-to wrenches.

Yeah all I use are the reversible ratcheting now. Im going to abuse them till I break one just to see what they can handle.

I've had the Gearwrench non-reversible since they first came out, haven't had a problem with any of them for what it's worth. Just recently bought the 20 piece set and gave the metric ones away to get the SAE ones as the old set I have is metric only (but more complete than the 10 pieces they give you with the "complete" set.)

As far as abuse I've beat on them with a deadblow and no problems..find the USA in a store or cheap off ebay (especially if not advertised as US)..if all you can find are lobster claw GW would probably be better...these were had for around 50 shipped..I had spares to complete the set though from another similiar auction

I have owned a set of metric and SAE and used them professionally every day for over 10 years. I have long thought that this style ratchet wrench is some of the best money I've ever spent on any tool because of it's convenience. I have broken 1 and had another that the ratchet mech was a little hokey from the beginning so both were easily replaced. The biggest downside that I can tell you is this - the open end of them SPREADS easily when you put it on anything besides a loose bolt. This spread means that when I need a standard open end I have to reach for my old set to avoid rounding nuts/bolts. I can also tell you that the ratcheting head is bigger than a standard wrench (no surprise) so you'll still need regular wrenches for tight clearance areas.

If I knew for sure there was a better option that didn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd sell these and buy those. Until then, they're easily my most used tool. I just bought a set of Husky SAE & metric ratchet wrenches for my dad as a Xmas gift, but I didn't get to use them myself so I can't comment on the quality. I snagged them at a salvage place, brand new in the package for $25/set so I figured it was worth the risk. If I can get my hands on them I'll post back.
