Bought two 8pc 12 pt wrench sets for $9.99 a piece. 5 out of the 16 had the box end placed off center. Asked them for replacements and they got 'em right for me. They said "If you're not happy, we're not happy". Although the wrenches weren't the best to start out, I now have a nice wrench set for under $20 thanks to the awesome customer service at Sears. Wouldn't mind going back one bit.

I bought a set recently and I didn't notice any box ends that seemed to be off center. A couple of the wrenches did have small cosmetic issues, but I didn't notice that issue.

Yea your set looks good compared to mine set when I first got it. I wonder if I just got a bad batch. I'm definitely not complaining though because for the price its worth taking a minute to look at the broaching.

I bought an eight piece set of metric RP wrenches (6 point) about one month ago on sale, and they were fine. None of the boxes appeared to be off center. I haven't used a single one yet, but they look okay for the price.

I have a set of each waiting for pick up next time I'm there, $9.99 was too good to pass up. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to check the box ends. Are the RP's still Made in USA?

I picked up another set of each the metric and the SAE on Sunday for that price, I took a couple of ratchets to swap out along with some wrenches only to find they had no 9/16 or 3/4 in stock. Luck for me the local ACE hardware had them.

I like the RP wrenches....the mat finish hides a lot more wear.....but I have big hands I find them a bit short for some jobs. Can't go wrong with that price!

I picked up my two sets today, thanks for the heads up. Only one of the SAE's was off center but 4 of the metrics were. They just replaced them all, no hassle.

Some were badly off so watch out, QC seems to be on the decline.

The RP's are still gems but you need to do the legwork to get a nice set. Beyond that, IMO they are stronger than the Craftsman Pro/Polished ones I have in my box. When I need a wrench that won't spread on me I grab the RPs. Great tool for the $$ it ***** they are getting worse in quality. Eventually they'll be offshored, get 'em while you can I say. A classic wrench.

100% agreed. Im always reaching for my rp ones even over my snap on an mac wrenches. Alot of ppl bash them but ive used them for years and ive broken more truck brand wrenches than the rp ones. It really ***** that they'll soon be asian made cause they're a classic american tool

Sure they be perfect, yes they should if we lived in a perfect world. 10 bucks for 8 wrenches is still a deal for USA wrenches, for many of us, it's a lifelong investment.

i also agree totally.

i dont know why they get such a bad rap... they are like the red headed step child of the wrench world, but they are tough as hell. the only RPs i have ever had an issue with are old -v-(imagine that..)deep offset double boxes, they would bend because they were really thin in the offset part of the wrench. never had a single issue with a RP combo, and i have beat many with a hammer....

Most of my wrenches are Craftsman RP types from the 1960s through 2012. Many are from the 1980s. I've never had a problem with any of them. I'm surprised to hear that several of you have been coming across so many wrenches with off center box ends. I haven't encountered any yet, but it does sound like the quality control is starting to decline. I'm still a fan of the Craftsman RP wrench.
