Found a Craftsman screwdriver with a hole drilled in it. Looks like it was made that way, but when I look up the part number there is no hole. Is this something someone modified, or did Craftsman sell something like it? Any idea what the hole is used for? Thanks!

An expired ebay auction says wire bending screwdriver, but I can’t find it yet. Maybe ask those who knows the old sears catalog, figure out out when WF made screwdrivers first.

I can think of atleast 5 uses for that! Dont know if that's a factory option or a home brew but I'll likely make one for myself!

You know I should have just looked in my 20 year old catalog in the first place

...and yup there are actually two in there listed with all the various tipped open stock screwdrivers.

Called a Wire Bending Screwdriver

A 3/16" x 4" part# 41873
(called small) $4.49

And the other

1/4" x 6" part# 41874
(called medium) $5.49

Plus they also came in the 44pc set ($79.99)

Don't ask.
I have a milwaukee with multiple bits and a wire bending hole close to the handle.
Works great for electrical jobs. I bet Klein has them too.

Klein has a Phillips head version. While I like the Craftsman, the Phillips head is more convenient.

OP here: I was thinking that hole looked a little too neatly done to have been an aftermarket mod. Thanks for shedding light on my mystery!

If you search YouTube for ‘wire twisting tool,’ you can see how they are used. They can easily be made by drilling a hole in a screwdriver.
