Picked up a few items tonight, under a probable recurring theme: the daughter of an older engineer with Alzheimers is selling off his workshop tools. He's at the point where working with the tools is risky.
A large lathe was sold, as well as a floor standing drill press. A table saw, radial saw, and scroll saw remained. I picked up the scroll saw. While there, you could see many items stacked up over the years. Clearly, the shop needed attention just to inventory the tools and bench stock - of which generous amounts remained.
Curious, I inquired with the man's daughter on disposition of the remaining items. She said it'd all have to go and if I saw something I liked, just tell her. So, I went back in and looked around. Ended up picking up 5x small Stack-On style bin cabinets - metal ones - with bench stock, 4pr pipe clamps, 2x 9-10" C-clamps, a nice 18-drawer metal cabinet (3 high, 6 across) with stock, and a nice Dazor lamp completely overlooked on a workbench.
Per thread title, the scroll saw is a Craftsman 103.0403 / .0404. Beneath the surface rust it's a wonderful deep Indigo blue. And wouldn't you know, vintagetools.com is down tonight so I can't research! From what I can tell, though, this particular model is pre-1940. Now this surprised me initially but after stepping back and looking at the whole, the curves do indicate pre-war styling. It has a Dunlap motor also.
Anyways, I'm posting here just to affirm great deals are out there and to solicit any feedback about the item from those who know the tool. We'll see if I have the dedication to continue posting as I go through a restoration.
The 18-drawer cabinet was a small gold mine: Forstner bits, hole saws, knockout punches, a litany of new Sawzall blades, files, drill bits (including a nice Millers Falls Expansive Bit), and 4x 8" stainless steel tie rods - purpose unknown. All this was amidst various other items.
Once I sort out image uploading, I'll post some.
And, enjoy your day.
