I have a set of both metric and standard semi deep metric sockets that i have had for years as my standard set of sockets. I have found numerous occasions where they are too deep to get where I need so I finally broke down and purchased a set of standard depth sockets. I now have standard depth, semi deep, and deep.

Point is, i think i have too many sockets! I have looked around on the forum and seen a lot of interes in these semi deeps sockets as they are no longer made. (from what I understand) To the point...

Are these sockes any more valuable than a standard set usually, or did the sets I saw just by chance go for more than what I would expect them to be worth?

I put a standard craftsman 3/8" socket next to the semi deep 3/8" for comparison.

Sizes:
10, 12-19
3/8 - 7/8

Thanks,

Value and worth are in the eye of the beholder.

They are out of production but, there are other options available than to pay crazy money for a socket set that was originally $19.97. However, you only need one crazy person to make your day.

I've seen a lot of sets sell on the classifieds here, usually very fast. Sellers could have gotten higher prices than what they listed in some cases.

Snap On sets are the alternative and you really have to work hard to find them used for $100 each, metric and std, especially metric.

It's unfortunate many people delete the prices out of the threads for some reason after things are sold. oak_park has sold a ton of sets and I think he asks $80 for a set of SAE and Metric. If they are used and you want to sell them, I'd list them at $80 or $100 to start.

Or let people PM you offers from this thread, take the highest one. I'm sure it violates protocol, but that's life sometimes.

If they were mine, I'd keep them...

I have to agree with many here. You will regret not having them when you need them. I even have a set of 1/2"dr Evolv semi-deep sockets that I don't recall ever buying, but damned if I'm going to sell them, especially for the price anyone would expect for Evolv sockets.

I prefer semi deep for many applications, especially when you are choking up on it or using a stubby so you can hold the socket when the bolt is really loose.

i looked for the semi deep craftsmans for some time, and came up empty handed, and after i realized that the $20 sets are now going for $100... i went ahead and bought the snap on set that my local pawn shop had been sitting on for a while... they were asking $100 IIRC, i offered $65 because it was missing the 8mm, and walked out the door with em.. found the 8mm here in the WTB section within a day or two for less than $10 shipped... cant beat that...$75 bucks

now that gearwrench has them, i will pick them up too, they are probably comparable to the Cman mid-lengths quality wise, and the price is right...

I think you're crazy for wanting to get rid of them. When the time comes that they're gone and you're trying to replace them, you'll be paying more than what you originally purchased them for. When you need them, you NEED them. Might not be today. Might not be next week. But when you do...

Keep. Them.

Thanks

It's funny that the Gearwrench stuff shows up online as K-D.
I'd like to thank you guys for bringing the mid length Gearwrench sockets to my attention.

Once upon a time, Gearwrench tools were sold under the KD banner. Who knew Gearwrench would get so large, they replaced the US made mechanics hand tool section made by KD.:wtf:

If you're looking for semi deep 3/8 impact sockets, Sunex released metric and sae sets this year that are quite durable and are only a third the price of a truck set. they are made in Taiwan though.
