Snagged this craftsman set because it looks like sk stuff. Looks like prewar sk to me. Has one newer craftsman socket

Nice grab, Otg. SK production anywhere from 1939 to 1950, but they looked chrome-plated, so not 1942 to 1945, and, based on the decal, I would postulate more likely transitional postwar. 1946-47-ish. It has a really interesting decal. The shape and style of the decal itself is =CRAFTSMAN= Heritage era, but that slightly long-ish C looks like a Long C era holdover. Are the pieces all marked with the Circle-K?

Unaiu has a similar set if memory serves.

I really like the nut spinner sets, they just speak to getting the job done. No muss-no fuss.

Of course, I have a few in various stages of completion from various manufacturers.

You're memory is just fine. Mine has the Long C logo under the lid. Presumed wartime production. Shiny sockets are highly polished but not chrome plated. Sliding T bar and extensions are not polished and are not marked.

Nice set OTG.

I have two sets of these. One set has all pieces marked, and came in a heritage era hip roof box identical to the SK boxes from the late 40s, and the other - a partial, unplated wartime set with both marked & unmarked tools (extensions and drive tools are not marked, but the sockets are marked).

I agree with your assessment that these are probably "transition" pieces based on the heritage decal (vs metal badge).

Great set!

My dad's old Craftsman toolbox (probably late 40s-early 50s) has the same long-ish C on it's nameplate.

I believe AA has a little bit about this. Even though other companies built the smaller ratchets for Craftsman, S-K built the 3/4 for them.

Howdy Oldtuleguy!

If you would like to learn a little about the ratchet that went with your set, check here:

I'm working on a "reboot" of my video series at the moment. Check the description box to see the "Cliff's Notes" regarding the subject. You won't see it in the link provided, but there are 3 variants of the ratchet that went with the general 3/4" set from this era (1939-1951).

It wasn't uncommon for Sears to liquidate existing new old stock (NOS) to fulfill orders as stylizations, fonts, or functional variations in the tools themselves. Given this, you might see a smorgasbord of applicable tools in a set, depending on where things were at with inventory and the aforementioned.

I have two such 1/2" drive u-joint extensions. I think SK only made the one 1/2" drive tool and no others.

Brian
