I came across this Craftsman snowblower that was being thrown away after a small garage fire. I gladly gave this beauty a new home in my garage. After stripping off all the crispy parts (and in some cases prying off resolidified plastic) I gave it a through inspection and found the engine block had some superficial heat damage, but was in excellent shape. I went ahead and tore it down and rebuilt it just to be sure.

After ordering some new parts from Sears, (Only the plastic parts.....I can't bring myself to pay $3.00 for a bolt from Sears when I can buy the same thing for $.60 anywhere else) I got out the old wire wheel and got rid of all the paint.

I decided to go with an Orange and Black paint scheme, which I think turned out pretty sharp. It fired up on the second pull and has ate it way through any amount of snow I take it through.

Very nice job on the rebuild! +1 on the Sears parts. I've had decent luck by doing a little research and figuring out who built it for Sears and then go there for parts to save a little. The nice part about Sears is they have or can usually quickly get just about any part...but you pay for that.

Nice job!.. and color scheme. That thing looks evil from the front. As others have said--great save!

nice save!

I've found some old push-mowers out by the street on garbage day,and I've had two of them fire right up and work fine. Didn't have to do much to them and they both gave me years of service before i finally got rid of 'em.

Nice Job..!!! Love it...what's the black paint? Looks "textured" or something like a wrinkle finish. Cool!

Here's a few of the oldies I've bought/used/fixed then sold etc...

My favorite is the BobcaT - Bought for $150 and it was the Mac Truck of them all. Only a 520 (5hp, 20") but no nonsense machine! Kinda bummed I sold it for $200.

-1978 Ariens 524 w/ new OHV 6.5hp engine
-70's Simplicity-Paddle style Impeller w/ 5hp Tec & 24" cut
-70's BobcaT 520 - Paddle style Impeller
-1980 Ariens ST724
