Craftsman Socket Quality

I just recieved the mother lode of Craftsman sockets. A 299 piece set that includes every socket they make. I've got an issue with the inside finish. None of them have the same bright finish as the outside polish. Some look like they don't have any chrome at all. It is the worst in the deep wells. There is even some surface rust on a coulple of them. Some of the inside walls are also rough. What I would like to find out is if this is just the way craftsman makes their sockets now, or did I get a bad batch? I'd like some advice about what how I should proceed. Should I try to get some replaced? All replaced? Or just give up on craftsman and go with someone else?

None of my SK sockets are shiny inside either. Come to think of it, my Snap On sockets don't have any chrome (to speak of) inside. I wouldn't worry about it.

The inside of the socket is not finished like the outer surface. Nothing toworry about.

Thanks for the help. I'm still a little concerned about the ones that have the surface rust on them though.

A little WD40 and they'll be good to go. I've gotten stuff from Sears with a little rust or what appeared to be corrosion from the chroming process a few times over the years. I don't think much of it as they'll be greasy and banged up soon anyway.

The inside of Craftman sockets are painted silver. If you don't belive that, dump a few of them in some clean lacquer thinner and watch a little while.

Here's some irony for ya: My BP sockets back in the day had chromed inner socket walls. The SOs don't.

Go look at a GearWrench socket. They are shiny inside too. So are the Sears Companion socket, IIRC.

Grease or permatex, either way a little rust on the inside should not be a big deal. Use them a little and rust will be history.

Just put them to work and don't give it another thought. This is definitely not something to waste any time worrying over!

Just soak them in Muriatic acid for a few days and your troubles will be over.

That's a nice set.. ! Can't speak for other brands but the wrenches are like that too, I don't think you don't want chrome chipping off when grabbing a bolt, would it even fit a bolt very well with chrome inside..
