Was at Sears in MN today and they had 2-packs of the metal socket rails with plastic handles for $4.99. I think they're normally about $6 for one. I'm new here -- don't know if this was post worthy, but seemed like a very good deal.

I think they are $3.99 on BF and you should be able to order online and not fight the crowd

I've got a BOX of socket rails and trays, steel and plastic, anybody can have for the shipping. 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2". I can get pictures if anyone wants them. I am going to toss them if not.
I just changed out two drawers and a tool box from rails to racks and am liking the racks much better.

another vote for racks. if you want something portable look into the magnetic socket trays from Lisle where the sockets lay flat. more money but I got tired of having sockets fall off or cutting myself enough times on the metal rails that I threw just about all of mine away.

The HF stands are 3 for 8 bucks and they'll stand standards and deeps per rack. Those metal ones aren't even the economical choice any more.

I second the snap on rails. I have a piece of OSB with all my rails screwed to them in my top drawer. You can mix and match the clips, all the rails 1/4 - 3/4 drive are the same width.

I have the Craftsman socket holders that come in black for SAE and grey for metric. I like to be able to grab a holder from the box prior to climbing under or on top of something if I'm not sure what size socket I'll need. I've never had any issues with them and the sockets are much easier to remove than my old metal Snap On ones. I picked mine up on the Sear's local ad for half price. I've seen them half off quite often. By the time I used points and coupons, I felt they were a great deal.

Pictures are out of the rails I have. I was amazed by the response these things got. I'll let you know what happens with them.

I just wrapped up reorganizing my wrench and socket cabinet. I like the Hansen racks because the sockets are very easy to remove, just pick them up or drop them on. The racks don't have to be screwed down to make them usable.
Here are some pics of my roll around storage cabinet.
The cabinet. Top drawer is Metric and SAE wrenches.

Wrench Drawer, Metric on the left, SAE on the right. I used a HF wrench organizer. Not perfect but it holds a lot of wrenches.

SAE Socket Drawer.

Metric Socket Drawer. I am on the lookout for a complete set 1/2" drive deeps and shorts. I have a set of Metrinch sockets that I use a LOT. Have found them to be my go to set of sockets for a long time.
