Craftsman stainless rollaways

I know that over all, craftsman boxes are on the down slide, but what do you guys think of the stainless. I know they are china, but if the normal boxes are mexico, big deal. Looking for a box at home and thinking one since the tops are 18" deep instead of 16". I"m hoping to fine a deal on a used 40" tool truck brand first, but if not, I may settle on a crapsman. I'm not all about the stainless, jut the extra depth of the top box. Sorry for any typo, its a holiday and have been driking for a long time.

Are you sure it's stainless steel? I don't believe the ads on SS anymore, check it with a magnet. I would bet it sticks. JMHO

yeah I think they're more like clearcoated bare steel. I've seen reviews that say they'll rust in humid environments.

looks like a decent box for the house, but you would be far better off finding a one-two year old classic 78... same drawer setup, but better top drawer. the top drawer of that viper box looks like it would be awful difficult to fit a 1/2 hansen socket tray in it, and i live by my hansen socket trays... just my $0.02 :-/

That is a low quality stainless they have come up with, and it will rust! I was taught by my gpa and dad that stainless steel is non-magnetic and will not rust. So now they can advertise made in USA if 3% is made here? No, to me when I buy SS it needs to stand up to the weather and strength should be up there too.

generally, you can find a used snap on or mac for around a grand, and the price is significantly lower if you can find one with a broken part (slide, handle, caster locked up) in which case, buy the box, and contact your local so or mac guy and get a replacement slide etc... lifetime warranty on slides and what not, and casters or handle locks aren't expensive at all

I personally passed on the 40'' Stainless CRAFTSMAN bottom rollaway due to the fact that it had too many deep drawers... I ended up with the 40'' 14 drawer black griplatch they sell at the store.

Many of the Craftsman boxes are 18" deep, not just the stainless. You must be looking for around 40" with all full-width drawers? Yeah, you're out of luck there with Craftsman except for the stainless one.

All stainless will rust, given the right conditions. And the 400 series of stainless alloys is magnetic.

Stainless steel can be magnetic (go check it out w/ a magnet and your silverwear and kitchen knives), and can also rust. Stainless doesn't mean rust-proof, it just means that it stains less than other steels.

Agreed, to those who point out stainless can rust and can be magnetic. Have saw minor rust discoloration on a lot of car heatshields and exhausts. Surprised to even see stainless oe exhaust but it is more and more common.

The cman stainless boxes have the familiar tig welds with brownish discoloration, typical of stainless. The boxes are better than kobalt stainless, but nothing extraordinary. Not sure how to compare it with costco, since costco isn't clearcoated and doesnt have the same appearance. While they didn't feel super flimsy, they are not all that robust feeling either.

China better than Mexico---No Way! Mexican produced products are typically made in factories just across the border, supervised by American engineers and production supervisors. I'd prefer USA / Canada products but if mexicans have jobs in mexico maybe they won't feel compelled to cross the border illegally or join the drug gangs. Canada and Mexico are big trading partners with the USA and when their economies are healthy, it helps the USA economy as well. Plus, their country is at least semi-democratic. You may not care about it when you buy a tool cabinet, but in the grand scheme of things it does make a difference

Plus, mexican food beats chinese.

+1 on the Mexico vs Chinese made products. My Craftsman roller was marked Mexico and came in pretty good shape. The top however was not marked so i assume it was Chinese. It looked like it fell off a truck It went back and I kept the roller.
