I'm just being curious. I occasionally see stainless Craftsman ratchets at garage sales. A brand I never touch. Is there any advantage in these over plated tool steel? Do the even hold up under real world use?

No, but they go for way too much on eBay, so they're worth picking up for that.
this, they are not good ratchets to use and do not recommend using them but they are collectible and bring some good money

The reason I still have my 1/4 and 3/8 is because they are super thin and sometimes it works because of that

I think those ratchets were ahead of their time. Really thin head, slightly offset handle for knuckle clearance, 36 teeth.

I've never seen one at a garage sale or flea market. Stainless became Lifetime on later versions.
