Sorry about the mixup. I think I'm getting the hang of how to do all this techno stuff. I can build a barn, but posting results is all NEW to me.
Check out my newly finished hybrid pole barn. After 6 months, she's up and looking fine. It was a one-man project all the way; except for concrete, shingles, and utility hookup. Phase II is now to complete the inside and set up shop for wood working and other projects. Take a look around. I welcome your thoughts and ideas.
View media item 26898This is how it looks today. I'm quite pleased with the result. It has the look I was after. The interior work is next, starting with more wiring and then insulation.
View media item 26899By golly, we're about there! The corner post is wrapped with tapered pvc postwrap and lights are installed. That is an 8 ft door opening up under a 9 ft interior ceiling. A tight squeeze for the door opener.
View media item 26900Now it's late November into December. I'm digging the trench for utilities. No, I'm not puffing on a cigarette.
View media item 26920Late October. The weather is nice for working as the last of the vinyl board and batten is placed.
View media item 26921Here the 6 x 6 corner post is getting worked on.
View media item 26922To achieve the craftsman look I wanted, stone veneer is put on the front lower portion.
View media item 26924The use of the lift expired, so I concentrated on the lower level which could easily be accessed with step ladders. Pvc trim going up in this shot.
View media item 26926Bingo! What do ya think? I like it! It seemed to shrink once it was blended in with much larger surroundings. Whew!
View media item 26925Up she goes.
View media item 26933My fears grew as it grew in height. This thing is nearly as tall as I am! Will it be too BIG?
View media item 26932Then the cupola. Oh my. Took me most of THREE weeks to build this thing. I had no idea how it would turn out. I built it all from pvc, 3/4 ply, 1/4 ply, and shingles.
View media item 26931Vinyl cedar shakes went up quite quickly, but lots of trimming and cutting.
View media item 26930Now fast forward several weeks. Three sprinkler zones have been relocated, soffit and fascia completed, shingling done, gables sheeted and wrapped, and pvc trim in place on the gables.
View media item 26929The lift was mine to use for almost 6 weeks, so all the upper level work was completed first. What a life saver!
View media item 26928By far the most difficult job for me was this one. Single-handed on a 10/12 pitch placing 36 sheets of osb and hammering in a bazillion nails.
View media item 26927July, and the temps are soaring. 17 trusses went up on a 95 degree day. Took all day for three of us. This pic was shot the next day after a cooling rain.
View media item 269392 x 10s are secured both in and outside of each pole for truss support. Then the concrete was poured for the driveway approach and floor.
View media item 26938Starting to take on some shape. Holes are back-filled but only after the bldg inspector gives the OK.
View media item 26937I was thankful for a day or two of help from my good friend Chuck from South Africa.
View media item 2693618 holes ea 4 ft down. This widow-maker about killed me! Goes down easy, pulling out is brutal. Each hole then received a 12 inch cement pad in the bottom.
View media item 26935Excavating sod and top soil and replaced with lots of fill sand.
View media item 26934This is the corner of the property for the new barn. Started May 2012.
