When I saw the first post, I had to wonder what sort of rock the OP was living under if he didn't know Craftsman = Chinese nowadays.
Anyway, a lot of air tools, many of excellent quality, have come from Taiwan for many years and sold under a wide assortment of brand names. For example, a lot of IR's stuff is made in Taiwan.
So there's nothing very unusual about those sanders.
In fact, if you look up a current Ingersoll Rand inline sander, it looks for all the world like an identical casting with a coat of black paint:

I don't know whether that particular IR is made in Taiwan, but it's pretty likely.
