Hello everyone. I have a question about a craftsman thickness planer a friend from work is selling. He bought it in 2000 he thought and has barely used it. It seems to be in nice shape. It also comes with an extra set of knives for it. The model number is 351.233780. It has a 12.5" wide capacity. I can't find a picture online or I would post one. Does anyone have a clue at what would be a reasonable price? I am just a hobby wood worker, nothing crazy here. Thanks for looking.

That's the type of planer you buy for one job and if it lasts longer than that -- great. For the home user, it's a short run light duty cycle kind of deal that will last a long time if used for re-dimensioning flat, narrow, soft boards.

It is not well suited to dimensioning long runs of rough sawn lumber or wide hardwoods.

The most expensive part of that planer is the warranty. I'm not, but if I was in the market for a good used one that was demonstrated as working, I would give $100 for it -- knowing full well it's still a gamble.
