It appears Sears is not associated with Craftsman, but they are trying to sell themselves as a "BLUE CREW - TOOL STORE".

Same as their appliances brand. They still carry Kemore and they also carry the competition, such as LG, Maytag, Samsung, etc...

Sears will always be associated with Craftsman, but they will also carry other competitors items, such as S-K, Gearwrench, KD tools, etc...

Sears will not drop the Craftsman name, as they did not drop the Kenmore name.

The only reason I go to Sear's, is to replace broken Craftsman tools...lol...not to purchase any new ones. Although, I did get a good deal on a 6amp recip. saw around Thanksgiving last year (that may very well be my final tool related purchase from them).
Other than, sometimes to pick up some Carhartt stuff that may be on sale.

Local Sears hardware right now is being re-organized...complete shambles, cannot tell what they are up to yet, but I think smaller tool area/more space for appliances and lawnmowers.
My little Craftsman set that I got for Christmas in 1962 is still a favorite to use. Nothing has ever broken, even under severe abuse with pipes extending handles. If something broke...I'd search the fleamarket for a new piece. Don't like the glaringly different modern ratchts and stuff, don't want sockets that don't match.

In one of the finanacial publications I read, there was a short blurb about Danaher that basically said that they are planning to redirect their investment strategies toward the medical equipment industry. No real details were given, so I have no idea what that means about their present or future investments in the hand tool industry.

Danaher doesn't just make tools...

Didn't last years catalog just say "tools" on the top? I always figured if Sears went under; someone would continue the Craftsman brand but who knows....

Yes. I've still got both of last years catalouges sitting in the magazine rack in front of my *******. It said TOOLS then underneath Featuring Craftsman. On the over every single tool was a craftsman tool. It was the same with both the spring and fall cataloughes.

The latest has a diverse selection of tools. The only craftsman tools appear to be the T-Handle nut drivers, that torque wrench, the sockets and wrenches, the cman pro screwdrivers, a c-man tape and cman pair of pliers. ALl the rest appears to be a different brand. The title to this catalouge is America's Tool Headquarter...

I don't think Sears will split/spin-off Craftsman. The de-emphasis of the Craftsman line in their tool catalog is due to their internal vision of restablishing their mail/phone/web order business as the place to get EVERYTHING. Sears.com wants to be Amazon.com. Amazon.com carries everything under the sun, not just a single brand in any one category. Sears wants to be the (web)catalog company that Sears was 100 years ago when you could even order your house kit from them.

There was a WSJ article some number of months back describing Sears's web site goals and specifically stating that they're going to take on Amazon.com directly, and that they're on a hiring blitz trying to snag e-commerce developers from competitors.

They're not dumping a valuable internal brand like Craftsman, but they want us to know that they don't just stock Craftsman, and that means de-emphasizing the link that they share.

I don't think they're going to "dump" Craftsman, but give it greater autonomy. imho, everyone would benefit from that.
