Okay folks,

This was my first tool box refurb. Story behind this is pretty simple. I bought this box from a guy at a garage sale for 5 bucks!! Spent some money on paint and bought a new name plate and sticker. Total investment around 20 bucks!

I stuck with gloss Rustoleum. The first coats I put on were Krylon. I didn't like how they turned out. Not quite the same quality of paint in this instance it seemed.

Enjoy the pictures! Looking forward to my next refurb!!

Thanks porphyre. I'm not that good with a rattle can. To be honest...it looks better in person than the pictures show. My camera almost shows to many imperfections. Anyway...I'm happy with the way it turned out.

This 89 wasn't in near as bad of shape as your 94.

Ha ha, it was beat up AND I paid $25 more for it! :lol_hitti

Yeah, I'm sure your box came out great in person. I should've stripped the paint completely off like you did. The finish would've probably been even better.

What I learned about the rattle can is that more is better. Coats that were just on the edge of running looked the best. I couldn't get the job done with "light" coats. The thing ended up looking like it was all overspray with a "light" coat.

Man, that looks great. The color combo looks sweet and the label is a nice finishing touch! Where can I find a $5.00 box like that?

Nice to breath new life into a box, well done!

A trick I learned about rattle cans.....soak the cans in a sink or bucket of hot water for 5-10 minutes before spraying....helps create a more atomized/finer mist. Really works good. An old painter gave me that bit of info. I have done it a couple times with noticeable results.

Hey bud, I just used the wire wheel. Only had 2 of them. Worked out well!!

Man, that's a nice looking box. When looking through the pictures I couldn't help but wonder how much time it took with that narrow wire wheel. That's real patience right there.
