Craftsman Tool Chest opinion

i usually deal with older toolboxes, and I wanted to get an opinion on this one from the experts out there. It seems strange that it is missing casters...then again maybe not? When this chest was built, were they putting out quality steel tool chests? All i have to go by on this is the photo provided, wanted an idea as to the value of this, if I have the opportunity to purchase it I do not want to pay too much. Any thoughts are apprecited, thank so much for your input.

Owner took the wheels off to fit it under the workbench (or as the support for the workbench). I did the same thing to a slightly later model Craftsman roller cabinet.

That is an older one and most likely built like a tank. If you can get it cheap enough ...snag it !

I concur with everyone else about the box's likely quality. If the seller isn't pricing it as if it were gold, I think you'll be pleased with a purchase. If you do buy it, be sure to post pics!

looks to me to be an early model built by Dunlap, in the 50's or early 60's Built damn near bullet proof,would be a good investment if this price isn't skyhigh.

This reminds me, I want to move some things around to get my boxes under a bench. The picture suggests this box is in good shape and should be a fine box to own. Much better than what Craftsman is putting out today.

So the big question here is what would be a decent price on it? What price range would you expect to pay for that type of box, considering the rest of it is in as good of condition as it appeears to be in? I don't find these types of boxes often, so I'm not expecting to steal it, by of course I don't want to overpay! What do ya'll think would be fair?

Is there a bottom in the box? It looks like I`m seeing the wood floor inside the box.. If it has a bottom I would go $40- $80, maybe alittle more if owner has the casters.

It is a nice one form the early 60's
$75 without wheels. The going rate is all over the place. It is a nice old box and will restore nicely without repainting it. As long as there are not dents in it.

I would not pay that much for one to resell but then again Craftsman things are going up in price. There are a lot of collectors for the old.

It appears as though under the Weller box there is a verticle line and one a little to the left, appears as though the bottom is just a simular color, I hope. This would be something I would keep for myself, not to resale, I have an old Snap on tolling chest I would sell to compensate buying this one. Hopefully that would be an upgrade.

Since I collect Crown Top Craftsman, I would pay $100 for it like it is, more if it had wheels. That's just me though, if the logo was any newer or older, I think $60 would be my cap. Nice box, let us know if you grab it!

I went to the sale this morning and was fortunate to be able to get the Craftsman toolchest. One of the drawers was stuck and I will try to figure out what it wrong with it, but with people breathing down my neck, I had to act quick. Toolbox was $55 and she sold me the Kennedy next to it for the same price. I don't need the Kennedy, but would be a fool to pass it up!! more pics to come as I did not have the space to load them up, will go back on Saturday to pickup my purchase. There was also a table of gun loading equipment next to it that waws snagged up VERY quickly, one gentleman bought the whole table! I guess with the price of ammo, loading your own is going to be pretty hot right now!

OK, thats definitely a YOU **** price. You could sell the Kennedy easily for what you have in both and make a few dollars in the process. That Kennedy has the door that is usually missing. Great score, love that Craftsman!!!

Dunlap was not a manufacturer, it was Sears lower price line tools trademark for a decade or so probably before that box was built.

If it doesn't have much rust (can't tell if it's dirt or rust?) $55 is a steal, I would have went up to as high as $150 if I was in a spending mood. If it has some rust it's still worth $80-$100.

That Craftsman box is throwing me. The logo says 60's generally, but by 1960 Craftsman had gone to full width drawer pulls, and I cant' find any pulls like that in the 54 or 57 catalogs. I'm going to say that one is probably 1958 or 59, probably the latter. (because of the logo)

I will be picking them up tomorrow, so I will try to get some better pics and hopefully get some answers. Maybe can find a model # or something after closer inspection.

Picked up both toolboxes today, Extremely pleased with the condition. was able to talk to the owners wife and was told he bought them both new and used them to store papers some small tools and some gun reloading equipment. They are both in excellent shape for their age, no dings or major scratches, drawers all glide properly, just don't have keys.

And the Kennedy.. Actually had an original Flyer in the drawer.

The craftsman has some paint on the bottom, not sure what kind of paint, but it's a brush smudge, any ideas on how to remove? Also looks like someone had a Sticker or something on the front, how can I remove that and the worn out faded sticker on the upper right Corner? Thanks!

For the paint take a Simple green soaked piece of paper towel and lay it across the paint splash for maybe an hour, and then see it it will come up.
