Recently I believe I saw a picture of a Craftsman tool chest with a combination lock on it that fit where the normal lock would be, It appeared that the box came that way from the factory. I have not been able to find much about them on the internet or find the picture again. I am curious if anyone here owns one or knows anything about them and how the locking system works.

I am the owner of the craftsman box with the combination lock and it appears to be a factory installed lock. The lid has two fingers that drop into the inside of the lock to secure the lid. They have been bent to one side by a previous owner who must have not known the combination. I have no idea what the combo is and I haven't had time to mess with it since I bought it about a year ago. I have not found any info in the catalogues I have about a combo lock box. It's definitely different and that is why I bought when I spotted it on Craigs list. I see if have any other pictures of the lock I can post.

I have one. 1963. That's an old snap on calendar on the lid. Didn't know combo. Locksmith got it in about 5 minutes. For free. It was installed with rivets. I had to drill them out and install the screws. Once I get good with drive rivets I will put it back to original. Any one have drive rivet advice. Pop rivets look wrong. And I only need two not twenty.

To figure out the combination on a three dial lock, start at 001. It will be someplace at or before 999.
Make sure you have some free time.

Bolt supply houses around here sell them by the pound...try there.

The lockers where I worked held the locks in with security screws that had a button head shape, similar to a rivet and had no visble slot of any kind. There were serrations on the under side of the head that held it until the nut grabbed. When people lost a key we had to drill them out. Installation required no special skill. Sorry, I don't know where to get them in big or small quantity.
