i can think of maybe 4 or 5 prominent members that can give ya a better answer.

Very early 50's. Check the top till and back of the drawer faces, it might be stamped.

Nice box... looks to be in good condition. If the price is right it may be worth the drive.

260 OBO? From the pics worth the trip. I'd message him and see if he'd hold it til you get there.

I'd place that one at late 40's early 50's cause the drop front boxes didn't last IIR.

Sitting two weeks is partly it a narrower audience for the vintage boxes, and probably the season (many have spent their "mad money" on Xmas one way or another)

For a 2 hour drive make sure you arrange a time and verify with him you are on your way and he won't sell out from under you. (sitting 2 weeks probably not a huge risk but I got screwed on a vise 2 weeks ago, and I was ON MY WAY and only 30 min away. ******* sold it as I pulled up, and couldn't understand why I was pissed...)

it HAS been sitting 2 weeks, and it DOES say "OBO" so work its condition. ask about any rust before you get in the car... Then make an offer...

To the right buyer, it could probably sell for asking price, but he could wait 6 months for that guy...

ps, look inside the drawer behind the badges, those often had " Metal Advertising Display Co." inside, and some of those had a date code.

I would pay $260 in a heartbeat for a cool old Craftsman, Snap-on, Herbrand, Waterloo, etc.; even Remline. A room full of new Chinese with one vintage, I gravitate towards the one.

so did you buy that cool old herbrand box in blacksburg (CL)?
i wouldve but it was 4 hours away.

'51-'59, the earlier CMan's with the heritage logo had a full cover for the front on the bottoms. the cover on the bottom portion only popped into the catalogs around '51-'52 ;) The top may be slightly older though.

Go there and offer $200... He doesn't seem too hard set on his price and that's a neat old set.. If you're looking to re-sell, take into account the expensive shipping and HIGH likelihood that the bottom cabinet would be damaged by idiot postal/USPS handlers who have a hard time picking up a 1/4 pounder..
I had the exact same top a little while ago and the same bottom cabinet.. Neat pieces.. They aren't making new ones of them!

I saw that listing and passed on it. They are are dirty and the paint may not be original and/or is in bad shape.
