Well, as you can see, here are the before and after pics of my craftsman toolbox, I tried to get out as many little dings and such as I could, but there are still a few left. i am definately not a body repairman! I still though feel like it's lacking something(Other than the missing interior tool tray) I used a textured Grey color that matched the priginal color as close as I could, I wish i could have used a hammered look, but the only rattle cans were silver or a really dark grey, which seemed too ark. Let me know what I could add or shouild I just leave it be and put some drawer linwers in? Suggestions welcome!!

Looks good, love those old boxes. How old is? If you dont mind spending a few extra dollars and you want the Hammered finish you can buy a non rattle can of light and a can of darker and mix them I did that for a Rottler boring bar and and it works great color was perfect. Very durable. You would have to brush it on, but it also seems to hide more flaws when you brush it.

I found one picture of a simular box that was for sale on Ebay that looked like it was original, but I have never seen this color before on Craftsman Toolboxes, but I do like the texture and look of the paint, almost like a bedliner texture. If I could get some kind of definition in the paint, I don't think it would look so drab or bland.

Very nice. If you were to try to take out all the little dings and get the paint *just* right you would drive yourself crazy and quite possibly never get it done.

You know, the more I think about it, I would drive myself crazy trying to get all the dings out, get the paint to look just right. I think some nice liner in there, maybe even some foam cutouts or something and call it done!! Next toolbox I will go for the hammered look to see what that would look like!!

That's the spirit. A nice hammer paint hides a lot of minor imperfections. You did a fine job on this one, so take a bow and start planning for the next!

I only wish I knew how to make my own hammer tone...

You know, I bet the hamer finish has something mixed in the paint that doesn't quite mix completely leaving something like a clear pocket. Sorta like mixing vinegar and oil will leave a bunch of droplets that wont mix, maybe that's what they do when they make a hammered finish. It would be intesting to look into.

It looks okay but would look outstanding if it was in my shop. Ship it here and I will post pictures of how much better it looks LOL.

The box looks decent, good job. I sympathize, I have stripped and repainted a few small toolboxes and not always been happy with the results. Prep work, cleaning and primering usually make all the difference. (and patience too).
I have had the best results with Rustoleum Industrial enamel paint.

That thing would really pop with the hammer finish paint.... I've used it a few times and it holds up real well, especially to weather. Find some and do the outside of that box, you won't regret it.

Ok, I've been talked into it!!! I figure like someone had mentioned, the hammered finish may help hide some imperfections. I'm in the process of adding the Hammered Grey finish right now. I will post the results of it when I am done.

OK, so I am actually pretty dissappointed in the hammered paint. I wonder if I got the same color paint in gloss with no hammered finish!! The Gloss only made the imperfections stand out more and the color was slightly darker, but I see NO hammered finish. There is'nt something I need to do first beore I spraypaint the hammered finish? Other than obviously prepping the surface for the paint? Oh well, I'll wait for it to dry completely and try to sand down the gloss!! it was worth a try!! And to top it off the cap of the spray paint looked really cool!! I feel like I did something wrong on trhis!! Opinions?

Hammered finished paint is basicly controled orange peel. After you get your base coats on make sure your finish coat is wet and slightly heavy. (just shy of running) That is what I had to do to get the desired finish.

Yeah it took me a few tries to get the hang of it. I was painting some old cheap sign holders and i was spraying too light. You really do have to go on kind of heavy. I would find some scrap and practice a bit. But when it works I have found that the finish does look really nice. On old sign holders at least..
