Wow... I want to thank both of you, it's pretty cool to find this stuff out. It's a great ratchet, and makes the new ones feel cheap. I never would have found this out myself.

GJ rocks!!!

Has anyone found a reliable way to date these? I tried pulling drawers and looking on the inside of the box, but didn't see anything.

Here are my Craftsman Boxes.

Just picked this 1950s box up yesterday.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429772751.420354.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429772763.309286.jpg

Then I have little old drill box.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429772802.695567.jpg

And these are not that old only but they are all craftsman. Not sure the year of the black drawer one. The others are from 2005.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429772895.708963.jpg

The bench top one I just picked up. I think it's a discontinued last years model.

Just out of curiosity;in picture #4 there is a small pocket knife in the drawer. Is there a makers name stamped on it? Reason I ask is I have been collecting pocket knives since I was ten(a LONG time ago!). If you could post a couple of pictures of it I might be interested in buying it if it's for sale. PM me if you like.

I definitely paid for it...and it wasn't cheap. Most expensive thing I've purchased for the garage. But, no more expensive than a new, comparable top/bottom Craftsman setup and I had never seen one is such awesome, used condition. It has one drawer that had something heavy fall on it, but nothing non-repairable. I actually still need to buff/polish the bottom chest, which I haven't done at all!

The top faces of the drawers were covered/speckled/dripped in paint/varnish/goop...it took many hours with polish and an extremely careful application of a razor blade to get it clean. But the results are worth it!

I have to admit that the patina on that one looks so awesome I'd be half tempted to preserve it as is. Then again, a well done resto never hurt anything either:D

It's funny you mention that because today I was thinking about a way to preserve it. I'll rock it the way it is until i have time to restore it, probably gray.

I'm supposed to go pick these 2 up today for $40. Can anyone identify them? The red and gray one has no logos but the seller says they are both craftsman.

Those were power tool stands, RAS' and the like. The are smaller and not quite as well built as the standard boxes.

Had to post after seeing bagged89's finds. I have the bench to match the stand. You driving to MA or I to CT? Love this bench. Super simple channel slides, but they move nicely.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that or from a workbench system, but I don't think craftsman made the workbench systems until recently.

I was thinking about using them to put together a workbench with my other craftsman box or using them to make a cabinet for my craftsman lathe. Or I can use one for my bandsaw if it's not too tall.

looking for those to put my bench drill press on.

Very nice. Are you selling that or you want the one I'm picking up?

Not selling. You should grab the red and black one for yourself and help my bench out by saving the other one to reunite it with its big brother, seriously.

Of course you like it better. It's very cool. The red and black is also a cool style for Craftsman before going cheesy. And these are not a lighter version of the boxes.

So I picked up 3 craftsman tool cabinets.
I'm working on a wood project and had some plywood laying around so I threw it on top to see how a workbench would look.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430875482.044720.jpg

Then I took the drawers out of this one
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430875514.143688.jpg
And put them in this one. This one is nicer. And that's the reason I bought all 3 for $45.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430875539.723463.jpg

Now I need to decide what to do. I'm thinking about using one for my band saw and the other 1 or 2 for my rolling workbench. I also have this guy which I'm using as a temporary rolling work table.

Looks good. That power bronze one is the bottom cabinet for the Accra-Arm saw that debuted in 1958/1959. I think it lasted a couple years and then was replaced by a different cabinet. I have one I'm trying to get rid of:D

Also, the Sears Craftsman catalog did also list workbench cabinets, some as old as early 1940s, but usually sold under a different name (Companion, Dunlap). The same is true for their modern (1940) machine bases - some were sold as 'Companion' and others as 'Craftsman'.

I really like the color of the bronze/gold one.
Is there a spray paint close color match?
