Orchard Supply Hardware stores in Calif have had Craftsman tools for several years now.
It is convenient for me to exchange a tool, since Sears is a lot farther away.

Could it be that Sears is outsourcing it's tool line in advance of store closures?

I don't think the intention is to close their retail stores but I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

Sears has been flailing around for years. IMO about all they have left are the Craftsman tool and Kenmore appliance names. I suppose DieHard probably may still some value also. So they may as well leverage those brands in whatever way they can because the rest of the company is slowly disintegrating.

Sad for a company that was once the leading retailer in the world.

Clerks at Ace often apply the wrong bar code sticker to their tools. Some times they are more than the advertised price but not too uncommon they vastly under price their tools.

I give them a heads up and they simply don't care and allow the deep slashed price. I have gotten many outrageously under priced Craftsman's and other tools (like Dewalt power tools, Ace tool boxes, shovels, extra study ice breakers ect).

The thing to remember is the advertised price when discounted to make sure you get it at the stated price. If you have the Sale sheet they will punch in the price even without a managers OK!

Quick and easy around here.

Sears took an ownership stake in Orchard Hardware several years ago but later sold it. K-Mart also got Craftsman tools few years ago when Sears bought K-Mart (bad move).

Ace Hardware stores are all independently owned. Some stores will carry upwards of 500 craftsman products while others won't have any.

I like buying Craftsman stuff at Summit Racing, same price as Sears, but it builds my speed points for my Summit bucks.

It's the other way around, K-Mart bought Sears... That's even more odd

The Kmart-Sears deal

Sorry about the erroneous information. Yes it was odd and I'm sure that's why I revised history in my mind.

Thanks for pointing it out.
