It's probably because Stanley owns them now and Sears has closed permanently in Canada

Interesting....

Sears/Kmart are definitely on their way out in my area; glad to see a new location to find Craftsman.

That said, however, most Craftsman stuff I won't buy anymore since a lot of it has gone overseas in manufacturing. The allure of Craftsman tools, to me at least, was that it was always proudly stated to be made in USA, guaranteed forever (even without a receipt), and it was affordable. The latter two reasons still apply, but if its just another Chinese product, other brands are more affordable.

The warranty, while still a plus, ***** when you break a nice decades-old USA tool, and take it in only to be handed a crudely finished/plated foreign replacement.

Even before the imported stuff began, you could tell the brand was starting to struggle. Probably 20 years ago, dad took a few old ratchets to Sears to exchange them for new ones, and they handed him 'remanufactured' ones. Dad, a very calm and pleasant guy, will always stand his ground, and said "I didnt buy a remanufactured ratchet, I dont want a remanufactured replacement". After some discussion, they gave him new ones.

Craftsman ratchets, in my opinion, were always the weak link in their lineup of tools.

Most of my tool collection is Craftsman, but most of them I have collected over the past 20 years and are old USA pieces. Over the past few years, I have filled out my set with ebay purchases

I have read that Craftsman will be available at Lowes, Rona and Ace Hardware in Canada. Completion to the Mastercraft and Maximum lines at Canadian Tire

I would be cool If Canadian tire would carry craftsman.

I haven’t been this excited in a long time! I can’t wait to buy this set.

I’ll put it this way, it’s great to see Lowe’s/Craftsman has newly designed tools. What’ll be a HUGE turn off for me is if they’re from Sears current supplier and Sears sells the same “new” designs as Lowe’s. You can almost garuntee I won’t be buying any at that point. That may not make sense to some people... but at this point, anything Craftsman that’s currently sold at Sears is a turn off.

Is this still Chinese Craftsman or do we have to wait longer for made in the USA?

All of the product descriptions and photos released so far have not said or shown made in USA anywhere. If these were made in USA, they would note that in the description and photos.

I'm sure this has been asked, but will Lowe's be honoring the older Craftsman warranties?

Jesus himself could be selling Craftsman tools and I would still not buy them. I used to buy Craftsman back in the day. I took a broken wrench in for a replacement back in early 2000's and they pretty much told me to pound sand. I walked out with my broken wrench. I was denied.

So now I'll buy pretty much any brand, even a jank *** junk tool from Harbor Frieght before I'd buy from Craftsman again.

This.

If they were USA, it would be plastered all over the website. Still Chinese stuff for sure. At least for now.

From what I've read, Stanley Black and Decker intends to honor the warranty on the older tools:

http://ir.stanleyblackanddecker.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=114416&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2252727

"We also understand the Craftsman warranty is important to existing customers and intend to honor existing and offer similar warranties going forward."

Whether or not they will utilize Lowe's as a return center is unknown.

There was a time when Sears would exchange badly abused Craftsman tools, like those with handles that had been intentionally bent 90 degrees by heating them red hot or even welded to another tool.

There was indeed which is a big part of the reason we keep talking about the stupid things and having wet dreams about them coming back into their past glory.

Having some life experience and being a tepid student of history I know of very few examples of returns to faded glory so I have little optimism in this one. I also think there are many fine tools out there now that are much better and more worthy of discussion.

I'll repeat myself again though...SBD is not going to market USA made, Proto quality tools at Craftsman prices. If they do I will eat crow; but it is a safe bet.

I think that SBD will go one of two ways with the Craftsman line. The pure junk route or the upmarket way. I am incline to think the Craftsman line will be a premium line and will be marketed as such with it being slightly at a lower price point then Proto. After all Proto is not sold in any Lowe's the last time I looked.

The only thing we can do is wait and see what transpires.

Online only for now, all the store here has so far is tool chests, and they won't be on the sales floor until the week of May 14.

Can't find it now but I read earlier that Craftsman products purchased online from Lowes won't actually ship until April 27. Earliest ship to store pickup date is April 28. I'm not seeing any physical Craftsman tools in any of my local North Texas stores as of yesterday. I do see, however, a TON of Kobalt product they need to sell, through.
