IMO, no. I bought one in the 1990s. It's only been out of its protective case only a few dozen times since then. It's never been loaned out, dropped, overtorqued, or abused. Yet the lock for the handle gave out many years ago and the plastic handle split on its own. I'm probably at 25 cents for each lug nut it torqued.

I happen to have all 4 Craftsman Clicker Torque Wrenches, as well as one of the Deflecting Beams.

The Deflecting Beam is awesome. I'd go with Precision Torque or CDI for the clickers though. Much better units. If you have some deep pockets, the Snap-On TechAngle is second to none.

Is that the digi-torque model or whatever they're calling the one that displays the number in the window? I'll agree, it's fragile. It didn't take long for the window to get scratched and damaged.

I don't know. I've heard good and bad on the Craftsman torque wrenches. I have both in lbs and ft lbs and for me...they have worked well. I'm just a weekend warrior though. For $39 which is what I paid for them, I think they're a decent deal.

I have similar ones, purchased three years ago, I have had no problem - or failures. I am. diy'r so does not get used often, but have definatley been used enough. I keep stored in my tool chest - always tension off when stored - no complaints - assuming the ones today are the same ones I purchased a few years ago - good deal for $39.00.

My coworker just bought one for torquing lugs on his Mustang, it looked fine.
