Sears had these on sale for $29.99 and since I needed a set of Allen and Torx bits, I used a few points and got it for $23. I've not bought any of the Chinese A series Craftsman but at less than $25 bucks, I reluctantly pulled the trigger. The bits and extension seem O.K. but I think you'd have to take a file to the edges of the 3/8 RP ratchets handle before you could use it! Either that or wear some good gloves. Those edges are sharp as hell and I don't have what I'd consider "weak" hands either. Gonna sleep on it tonight, may return it. I have plenty of ratchets and could yard sale the one in the set but still..... Anyone else have this set or have anything to add as far as experiences with it?

I got this set last time it was $29.99 and with points I walked out the door with it for $22. That's about as much as I'd pay for it anyway. I did a quick inspection of the pieces and found a few just looked pretty bad. My 3/8 bit was actually bent so I returned it and they gave me a USA made replacement bit, so that was cool. And I have so many other 3/8 drive ratchets I don't even use the one in this kit. But for the $22 I paid its ok.

Thanks Sanny, the ratchet isn't a deal breaker as I really do need the bits and have other good 3/8 ratchets. I don't mind foreign COO when it comes to tools but damn, this set seems "lacking". Finish seems more like the house brand at an auto parts store. I guess it was less than $25, so like you said...it's O.K.

what more do you want for the price? at nearly 75 cents a piece what could there be to complain about? i have the set, for the amount of times i use it ive gotten my moneys worth i just wish the sizes went up higher.

its just annoying to see people rant about how "quality" tools are turning cheap... well you didnt pay alot for them whatd you expect.

I wouldn't quite call my musings a rant and I agree, the price was cheap. However, I never said that they were "quality" tools turned cheap, just that the ratchets edges were sharp to the point of being uncomfortable. However, If you are easily annoyed by tool quality rants, the Garage Journal forums will eventually drive you insane. :eyecrazy:

No problem.lol. The tools are o.k. and probably worth a bit more than $25. I do hate Craftsman offshoring so many tools as they were really the last brand that the DIY guys could affordably purchase that were mainly U.S. made. But to keep the tools at an affordable price point, I know that they had to offshore some manufacturing. It is what it is. BTW......Ernie is better than Bert! JK, had to.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
I'd be torn between this set and the one Husky makes - both Chinese COO but the Husky ones seem...better...somehow. I'd lose out on the ratchet though but I have a lot of ratchets already. The USA version (if one can find it) seems to be of generally higher quality (better QC I suspect).

I have a smaller 1/4 and 3/8 drive cman US set and a few piece larger sized 3/8 and 1/2 US set that i bought a few years back in a pinch. They work fine for low torque, non rusted/ corroded applications, but seem seem a little 'iffy' for anything that needs a little force to remove. i've been looking for an upgrade set next time i know i'll be working on something that utilizes torx screws/bolts

I knew it was futile but I dug through the 30 or so sets hoping some NOS might be hidden. The sockets are actually decent looking though the bits look to be "pressed" into the socket. The loose stock, U.S. made ones are the same though. I don't use these a lot but it's one of those things that nothing else will work quite right when you do need them so they should do ok for what I'll be putting them through.
