Craftsman universal sockets worth having?

I'm not a fan of the whole "universal" idea, and I'm even less thrilled with Craftsman tools made in Taiwan.

But for $15 I almost wonder if they would be worth picking up.

I come across square nuts now and then, and an maybe external torx on a very rare occasion.
Not often enough to spend the money on good stuff, but they look they could come in handy for the occasional "odd" nut or bolt.

I have a set, about 3 years old. Only used the 9/16 twice. Think of it as the crowsfeet, not always used but in a pinch it can save your ***.

I'm going to either use the right size socket or a nut remover, can't see EVER wanting to use the splines.

The set I saw at Sears was made in Taiwan....I would gladly support the enemy of China!

As stated above, these things might get you out of a jam some day when nothing else will work. The question is, will that day ever come? Bought an SK 40 piece spline drive set earlier this year from ToolTopia. It's still a virgin, been sitting in the tool chest since I got it.

Funny that you mention that. I would venture to say that 50% of my box are tools that I bought on sale only because i will need them 'some day'

Back on topic...is this even a sale price? It looks to be in regular price text on the website...

Each different tool in my chest are like weapons used in the battle against corroded fasteners and stupid automotive engineers in my campaign to fix vehicles. Spline sockets are a verstile tool that when used correctly can help use with a variety of damaged and odd shaped fasteners. They are by no means my primary sockets but, have their place. If SK was back up and pumping out tools, I would recommend their SAE/Metric combination socket set. However, they're not and the Sears sets aren't PRC made so, I see no foul in buying taiwan made sockets like Sunex and Grey pneumatic but, that's just me.. However, the Sears set annoys me because they skipped 15mm which is a common size on the GM vehicles I often work on.

I definitely tend to be COO correct, so there is no way I'm getting spline drives till I exhaust all other sources for decently priced versions. The Snap On tax is too high for me when a tool is for predicted occasional use. Who knows, they may be best damn idea since standardized socket drives and would make the main system for someone.
