Craftsman V series Cadmium ?

Here's a couple of 1/4 " drive breakers. Both V series.
The one in the top is standard chrome 50's to mid 60's but the older, bottom one makes me suspicious .
Do you think it's cadmium plated or just darker chrome or dirty ?

I don't think it's cadmium.

Don't think it is anything except dirty chrome--try cleaning with wd-40 & a stiff nylon brush--or evapo-rust if the dark spots resemble rust starting to penetrate the chrome.

I went over it with wd40 and #0 steel wool.
Still that dull dark grey.

I'm thinking that the chrome plating has just worn thin with age and use on the bottom one. Allowing the metal underneath to bleed through.

Might be zinc plated instead of chrome.

Hmmm, it is really old. Also, from looking at he drive plug I can see its been used a lot.

just dirty, throw it in evaporust and polish. Though, older than the top one.
