I was at my local Ace Herdware yesterday and was looking at the Craftsman screwdrivers sets. I know some were made by Vessel. Does Vessel still make some screwdrivers for Craftsman? If so how do you tell which ones are made by Vessel?

They say made in JAPAN on the package. To my knowledge there were two different ones. One was a ball handle with interchangeable blade the other was a set of 2 impact drivers.

I have a few of the Japan made vessel drivers. I just looked for features and made in Japan, and figured out the vessel connection. Great drivers, especially the impacting drivers.

Yes, I can confirm Vessel definitely makes screwdrivers for Craftsman or at least they did and there's still a ton of inventory being sold and sent out by Vessel. They're good screwdrivers, especially for the price you can find online shipped or at your LHS. Zephyr Tool Group is handling the sales but they come from Vessel.

The ones that Vessel made for Craftsman have the distinctive large ball grip or have the Megadora handle look Impact drivers and as noted above are marked made in Japan.

Yeah I don’t know how the Ace Hardwares are like in your area but the 3 I have locally still have NOS Craftsman Tools, 2 of them have fully stocked USA made socket sets, wrenches etc. They even have the 1st gen craftsman Raised panel ratcheting wrenches.

They are probably one of the few places that still sell USA Craftsman locally, although they are a bit expensive.

In fact, the Vessel/Craftsman slotted Impacta driver is unique. One can't buy that combination from Vessel -- only crosshead.

I'm a fan of Vessel, and I like those Craftsman drivers. For less than $15 for the pair, they're a bargain. The slotted Impacta got used here the other day removing some old door hinges in my 1937 house.

Would you say the Phillips is in fact Phillips, or JIS?

I've not paid close enough attention to say one way or the other, but I have the same Craftsman set at home... I've also got the actual Vessel screwdrivers, both the impact versions and non-impact versions, and a set from Snap On. I'll have to see if I can compare the tips and see how they differ from one another.

I have the Craftsman 2 pc made in Japan screwdriver set. They look like rebranded Vessel Megadoras. I don't know if they are still being made given Sear's precarious state and the eventual wind down of the Sears Craftsman line due to the deal with Stanley. The impact feature could be helpful, but other than that, they nothing special in my books. There are other screwdrivers out there that meet the DIN/ISO spec which allows them to work with JIS screws. I still ended up having to buy a Wera No.3 Phillips to meet my JIS screw needs for old Honda rotor screws.
