this old drill looks kind of crappy shabby wiring on the motor but this thing is quiet as heck and works great all the bearings are good the only reason i even paid any attention to the listing was because of the Vari-slow or slow drive I don't know what the model even is but the column post is 2-3/4inch so i know the slow drive will work on my 150

Those damn attachments go for 150, been wanting one for a while myself, congrats if you pick it up. That's not a vari-slow though it's a multi-speed attachment.

I think that model was made around 1940. It still has the oval switch plate, but has 4 arms on the handle instead of the earlier 3. So, IIRC, after 1938 but before 1941/42. The date code on the motor will help narrow it down closer if it was bought at the same time.

I haven't pinned the model numbers down on the earlier Craftsman/Atlas DP's, but I think its a model 64 or 74. Or somewhere around that.

Whatever you paid for it, it was worth it for the free speed reducer.

I have one of those reducers on the DP that I got from my grandfather and if I saw one in the wild I'd still grab it in a heartbeat. It's the hoarder in me. :dunno::evil:

OBTW : A vari-slow was a different type of speed reducer. I've never seen one, but I think its more of a transmission than a set of step pulleys.

This is a vari-slo:

Kind of like a CVT.

I am assuming this would be what they call a multi speed its a lot like a modern setup but its not spring loaded, and it is 4 steps i overlooked the one between the belts.

BTW thanks for the link

never even measured it to see if the slo speed would work really, this drill is actually not in bad shape could use a paint job and rewire the funky old wires on the motor and it work good does not need no bearings and runs quiet

you are correct it is not gonna work on the 150 , I did not even measure it its way to tall looks like a good reason to play with this one i am gonna look it over a little better and see if i can find a model number, oh BTW a member give me a vari-slo assembly last night and shipped it today it needs a control linkage this will fit my 150 this will be interesting
