I have been looking for a older US made vise and came across the below Craftsman 5 1/2" guy on craigslist. I can not seem to find any info on it online and the seller just says it says 5.5" on it and nothing else.

Does anyone here know anything about this style/model?

Thanks in advance.

They are a good basic vise with a cast in place bent steel slide. Compared to other 5" vises they are pretty small and light weight. Same design as their current ones, but now china made. That thing has been listed for a good while. It's not that great of a price. IMHO

how much they asking? I think those were supplied by Columbian after Wilton bought them??

Decent vise...not like it's a bullet or something though...

I bought a USA made version of that vise in 1989 (same size) and worked it hard at times. It still looks almost the same as when I took it out of the box.

I have the little brother version of that, a 4" model. They are very light duty vises. Obvious china junk. I bought mine for like $4-5 bucks at a yard sale just to flip it, but it's hardly the kind of thing I'd want to mount on my bench for any use.

yeah but his is the USA version, which is a better vise imo

I recently sold the 4.5" version (also made in USA). It was not a very a good vise. Very sloppy machining on the base, and the swivel did not lock very securely. I would not offer more than $30 for that vise.
