Craftsman vs Gladiator

Hello All:

I purchased a Craftsman 8 foot workbench and I really like it; however, as most of you know it is 42" high. That's a problem because the only place in my garage I can put it is the raised lip on the back wall. Bench is way too high.

I know I can build a step up deck to compensate but I wonder if I would not be happier long term taking the set back and exchanging for Gladiator's 8 foot w/ adjustable height? *If I go this route, I will use Craftsman roll away 4/5 drawer cabinets under the bench.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Rick

Hey Rick, I can't speak for the Craftsman, but can for the Gladiator. I just built my Gladiator 6 foot adjustable height Maple top and it's very nice. I have it standing over my HF 44" box (with sidebox) and like it a whole bunch. The quality is there, it's heavy, comes with good hardware and has a nice backplate for support and adds to the strength to the unit. Thing is Gladiator is very expensive, I got mine on sale from Sears so if you go that route, keep and eye open for when the 8 footer goes on sale. I'd recommend it.

I'm going with Gladiator as well. Already have 2 30" cabinets. They go on sale regular so I'm planning on doing all Gladiator garage.

Yea, I have 4 of the 30x30 wall cabinets, 2 of the full size stand up cabinets and now have the 6' adjustable maple top workbench.

A lot here don't like the diamond plate, I don't mind it all, to each his own I guess. Buy it when it goes on sale.

Rick - they are both great benches. I considered both, went with the 6' Gladiator adjustable. I've had it installed for about a month and like having the option to adjust the height - changed the height twice already - quick adjustment and you're good to go.

The downside is the cost - it is expensive. As others have noted, keep an eye out for sales on this. Sears had the 6' around Father's day for 50% off.

You could either take it back, or perhaps just cut the legs down, if there's enough leg below the stretchers to do so.

Thanks all, sorry for the slow reply, was working.

Pretty sure I'm going to return the Craftsman set and get the Gladiator. I'll stay with Craftsman wall cabinets and roll-away tool cabinets for under the bench.

Now I need to figure out a good light for over the bench.
