Picked this up last night off CL for $20! No tools, but 2 keys. They list for $100-$200 on eBay. I will just hang it, maybe repaint the right door. Anyone know the general age?

They were 95 bucks when new and came in several varieties. One is the mechanics tool set, which this one is not. They also made a carpenters set, which is what you appear to have.

Super cool find. I will eventually turn one of those beauties up.

I like that a lot. I’ve been trying to resist the urge to pick up a NOS, but pretty modern, Carquest wall cabinet has n CL. It’s more expensive and nowhere near as cool, though.

I see the carpenter version occasionally, have not run across the mechanic version. Very cool.

I have found several versions, but none identical to mine. I'd like to see what it held new and what year it was built.

You have the later version with the pegboard back. It's in the 1955, 1957 and 1959 Craftsman Hand Tools catalog. The basic cabinet was the same in 1955 and 1957 for the mechanics and carpentry models, only the pegboard accessories changed. In 1959 there was only one version, no separate mechanics and carpentry versions. The 1959 likely had the Crown logo instead of the oval Heritage logo.

In 1960 the doors got pegboard holes as well and more normal pegboard hooks instead of the specific toolholders.

In the 1964 catalog they are gone.

From what I can see you have a 1955-1957 era one and it appears to be the carpentry one from the few pegboard accessories I see.

I appreciate the info, thanks. It doesn't really match either...no mounts for speed handles and no angle bracket for the hand saw. If there is no other option, do you suppose mine has been modified?

I don't think yours has been modified, it is missing some of the pegboard accessories. The hand saw bracket is the one in the upper right of the pegboard area. Here is the 1955-57 ones, unfortunately the carpenter's one does not have a larger picture.

nice cabinets everyone! I’d like to join the fun at some point and get the mechanics version! Interesting to note that no one has posted their crown top cabinet. Anyone have one?

A few months ago I was in an old farmhouse in Vermont, and noticed this old tool cabinet on the wall of the laundry room.

Looks like some of the original tools are still present. These cabinets seem like a great idea - I'm surprised they weren't more popular.
