Probably, that's what mine looks like, but they're so rare in either configuration I would buy it. Too far for me or I would have it already.

It does look like the carpentry tool version. It’s hard for me to see from the pictures, but it might be missing a few of the interior brackets/hooks. $40 could just be the right price for that particular example.

I was out buying some Blackhawk tools last week and the guy had this hanging on his wall

IMG_1293.JPG

He said he picked it up a few weeks ago and just finished stocking it with tools he had in his garage.
He wouldn't sell it to me then, but I'm going back until he weakins.
His whole 2 car garage was was completely filled with hand tools and small equipment that he sells on Craigs list
so I think it's only a matter of time before it's hanging in my garage!!

Good luck! I just finished putting that set together a few months ago.

Jim, that cabinet is awesome and I can see why dons after it. I will have to up my hunting and see if I can find one. Haven't seen one in my travels.
Now how about getting some vintage screwdrivers in there!

I've never run across one in the wild. I think the reason is that those "deluxe" sets that appear on pages 1-2 of the old C'Man catalogs were mostly the stuff of dreams. A $150 tool set in 1952 adjusted for inflation was almost $ 1700. The average tool buyer at that time was grabbing a 90 cent Dunlap wrench for a specific job, not buying a monster "dream" set.

And I think you had to buy the deluxe set to get the cabinet. I'd bet most were sold to shops/pros and being nailed to the wall many probably got tossed when old garages were demolished and things like that. I doubt many average homeowners would have ever bought these big sets in the 50s.

Hey bugnut,

They’re hard to see in the picture, but the screwdrivers are 100% correct for that box. I relied on the 1954 Craftsman catalog as my point of reference when I was putting the set together as well as a few seasoned tool collectors opinions. I’m fairly confident that every tool in the set is vintage correct and the set is 100% complete.
